Day 3 of a planned 3 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting

I want a hamburger. If I wasn’t ‘no solid food fasting’ yesterday I *would* have had a hamburger, with onion rings, and fries. It just got into my head.

Instead, I allowed myself to have all the protein shakes I could manage. Not good for the diet, but wayyy better than the hamburger.

This is a ‘mental thing’. Too many things that I want to ‘go a certain way’ that I have to just ‘accept’. I want to ‘control my emotions’ through food. This too shall pass...

Tonight I start eating until Sunday night. The goal is *keep it low carb*. The problem is that even if I do, I will end up with a huge amount of Protein because I end up eating a lot of cheese.

Excessive Protein (anything above 50g a day) *will* affect me just as bad as carbs. However, when I do a ‘carb binge’ I blow out my carb *and* protein numbers, so one is better than two in this case.

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

Protein Shake vs. Hamburger, no bun...any difference? Probably the excessive Protein, but burger is filling.

@srossca - I agree that a hamburger (no bun) is better than a protein shake because 'real food' will *always* beat out something 'processed' I got out of a 'can off the shelf'. No, this is simply a case of: "If I start eating solid food I will **binge** until I am full". Of course people tell me "You need to learn too..." Well I'm 50 years old and I "haven't learned" and I "Haven't changed". Rather than beat myself up I just do what works for me. For whatever reason, 'not eating solid food' allows me to 'minimize the damage from **binging**' - - So yes, the hamburger without the bun *IS* better than the Protein Shake... for everyone *but* me Haha!

Have you thought of looking at other cheeses? Or avocado fats? For example - mascarpone cheese has 1 gram protein per 7 grams fat in a Tbsp. I had the same problem as you initially. The cheeses I liked had a lot more protein than I could handle. BTW - maybe try a bone broth fast instead of the protein shake. That would give you the minerals and salts and the collagen proteins and it won't spike you too hard and you'll burn of the calories pretty quickly. Of course, if you're looking for calories, soup is a pretty low caloric and potentially low protein "meal" depending on how it's made. That + a fat bomb and you've got your low carb macros in place.

@jaderh - I have done home made bone broth in the past. Works well. The only issue is that it is a very involved process for my wife to make so that is why I switched to protein shakes. I will look in to alternate cheeses thanks!

@srossca - Keep in mind, 'some are sicker than others' and you are probably feeling just fine :)

Read, and my head repeat over and over... you're low on salt. Salty burger, salty fries, salty onions. Believe these cravings would vanish with a teaspoon of salt. My world is simple though... body need protein, salt and some fat. Nothing else.

@Diddlee - I had my Electrolyte Concentrate (salts plus other minerals) and the craving is now gone :)

@adefwebserver Maybe my bone broth recipe will help? Bones or chicken feet. Pressure Cooker. Flavorings. (I like more asian style so I put in more ginger garlic, chilli and bay leaves in the mix. Other times, I'll make a more european style flavored one with carrots and bay leaves and some herbs.) Basically chuck everything into the pressure cooker. Add water. Walk away for one hour. Come back and remove all the solid pieces. Pour into a container and let cool. An easy fix is to buy a whole chicken and just cut the back off. Let's face it... people eat wings, thighs, drumsticks, and breast. So just a pair of kitchen shears to cut the back off and your basically set. An alternative is to find chicken feet (sometimes, it's sold in supermarkets, the asian market is where I get mine) or oxtail or any cut that's especially bony. Hope that helps.
