59Carol's Journal, 03 March 2019

Well that week went well on the weight front. I have been concentrating on my minimums of eating a good breakfast, exercising and drinking my water. I also meditate for 5 min daily. Lunch and supper I try to be cognizant of portion sizes and good choices. Today that paid off. I also think the modest losses for the last month accumulated in a 'course correction' today.

As for the hospital side of my life, it continues. I am noticing my husband is slowly going downhill however he is able to get up and move around. He is fully cognizant and is enjoying visiting with family and friends. Yesterday two long time musician friends came and played him his beloved blues. It was wonderful and meant a great deal to him. So far I continue to sleep at the hospital in a bed pulled up against his. We do expect that may end soon as my bed will be needed by a patient. Tomorrow is our 42nd anniversary and Tuesday is my husband's 62nd birthday. It would be nice if we can continue to cohabit until then.

Adherence to the diet is what people don’t strive for n it’s what’s mostly needed. Strive for that 😉

Happy Anniversary to you both and Happy Birthday to your husband. It's always wonderful to see couples that have a long and happy marriage together. Most hospitals have some kind of lounge furniture if not a proper bed that you can sleep on in his room even if they take the regular hospital bed from you. You need to ask them what they may have that they can move into the room for you. I didn't know to ask 6 years ago when I stayed with my husband, and pushed 2 plastic chairs together and the curved bottoms just hit my back terrible. I slept that way about 3 nights until a nurse told me they had a lounge chair that opened up to sleep on. Why hadn't anyone told me? Then I didn't know to ask for sheets, blankets, and pillow so slept another 2 nights without any until a nurse offered them. After 3 hospitals I have learned they have so many things we just don't know to ask for. I was at UCLA for 15 days with him, and finally found out they even have a shower down the hall, for visitors. That was wonderful. If they take the bed, be brave and ask a nurse what could you sleep on in the room? Another thing is the food: at UCLA we could ask for double of anything except the entree, so we asked for 2 soups, 2 salads, 2 yougart, and 2 drinks, so there was plenty for me too. We are praying for you, and are so sorry you have to go through this. I know the time is precious together. The Lord loves you both so very much, talk to Him.

Thank you so much for the outpouring of support. I truly appreciate it. Snowwhite thank you for your suggestions. I am truly fortunate at this hospital. Each room is equipped with a love seat sized couch that pulls into a bed to fit a 6'5" person. I was shown where to find blankets and pillows the first day as well as where the shower and laundry were located. I have been offered extra trays on a fairly regular basis and the cafeteria food is both inexpensive and well made. I could not ask for greater support! On Friday afternoons volunteers come in with tea and goodies for the patients and families. They play a lovely piano while serving. In every way the ward makes the patient and families feel as at home as it is possible.

So sorry that you have to be going through this right now, but so glad that you are in a place with people that are kind and caring.

Wonderful his musicians friends showed such love for him. My wish fo4 your anniversary comes from A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh: “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard,”
