chrisw77's Journal, 19 February 2019

So, yesterday was my first day eating over 1500 calories in awhile because I was sick.

I had lost weight in the past week because my calories were drastically cut.

Yesterday, I ate in a slight deficit (2700 in, 2800 out) and gained a few pounds - what gives? This is where some people see the model of CICO breaking down and draw the conclusion that it doesn't work "for them".

CICO is a principle, not a diet method.

I gained a couple pounds overnight, but it's not fat. I ate less than I burned which means the weight is temporary. I'm back to drinking a gallon of water a day AND - regardless how much I exercised - I still ate 2700 calories yesterday. That's a lot of food floating around in my body, so it'll take another day or so to work it's way out.

No reason to freak out. I didn't get fat overnight. I didn't put on two pounds of muscle from my workout yesterday. Natural, biological functions retaining waste and fluids. It'll be gone soon enough 👌
143.5 lb Lost so far: 14.5 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

How can you accurately calculate what calories you put out ?

It's crazy that people claim to be so intelligent, they know we retain water from carbs, sodium, and food also has weight but then eat 500 calories and claim to have gained 2 pounds of fat. I don't know if there is any way to help, they just ignore any contrary posts. *shrug*

I read yesterday that for every carbohydrate you consume, your body retains 3g of water. Doesn’t seem like much but can sure add up! (I didn’t see in the article how much water you retain for fat/protein.) Also, thank you for “CICO is a principle, not a diet method.” 👌🏼

Yes it adds up, I average close to 500 of them a day. That's a lot of weight. The best kind.
