Yesterday, from around noon until about 6:30 p.m., I got really nauseous and headachy, as I reported, and it only got worse as the afternoon wore on.

It wasn't hypoglycemia: my serum glucose metered at 141 mg/dL. I took 3 units of Humalog before breaking my 18-hour intermittent fast, at around 3:45 p.m., then ate some 4% milk fat cottage cheese, cucumbers, celery, and tzatziki -- and felt markedly worse.

Serum glucose fell to only 130 mg/dL, but I didn't expect a big drop with so small a dose of insulin. (This morning, my blood sugar was still at 139 mg/dL, but I skimped on Humalog and Levemir last night since I had eaten so few grams of carborhydrate. This morning's dose of Humalog: 6 units, Levemir: 25 units.

I'm having to readjust my carb-to-insulin ratio, which I learned to calculate from an excellent certified diabetes nutritionist. I'm confident that I can handle small changes without an MD/NP consultation.

I started to feel like eating something around 6:30 p.m. and had 5 ounces of canned chicken breast packed in water. By the time I finished that, I was completely well ... well enough to eat three chicken wings. For dessert: a nice dish of whipped cream! (I'd already hit my 20g net carb limit and then some, so I skipped the Publix Triple Berries.)

So, what the H-E-double-hockey sticks was that?!

Well... Serum ketones jumped from 0.8 mmol/L on Friday and 1.0 mmol/L on Sunday morning to 2.4 mmol/L this morning (Monday) at 4:30 a.m. "Optimal nutritional ketosis" is 1.5 to 3.0 mmol/L. I made it! WOW!!

I also did my first "Monday only weigh-in": 214.5 pounds! Now, that's a "WHOOSH"!

Could that have been a six-hour "Keto Flu"? (I'd heard that it can go on for weeks!)
