You’ve lost 4 lbs in one week. Why so discouraged?

@jenk256 because I literally starved myself a whole week and only lost 4 lb so I feel like it will take me forever

So 1 pound of fat is roughly 3500 calories. 4 pounds is therefore 14,000 calories. Over 1 week, that’s a calorie deficit of 2000 per day. So yah, you’d have to starve yourself to lose 4 lbs per week. You’re right on track. Of course, if you starve yourself your body will literally think it’s starving (because it is) and it will lower its base metabolic rate to account for the starvation. So if you keep starving yourself and then go back to your old calorie intake you’ll end up gaining back more than you lost because your body will have learned to be more efficient with the calories you give it. Consider a more measured approach that you can maintain and some patience. It’ll work better in the long run.

It can be frustrating for sure, I feel ya on that one, but I try to focus on portion control, so I don’t have to give up all the things I love ☺️ I also decided to start taking body measurements because the scale can be discouraging sometimes! I was stuck at 192.8 from Jan 14 until today when I weighted my self. Don’t give up!!

Not sure if this helps, but whenever I feel “stuck” I up my protein and that helps the scale move more. Hang in there! It’s better than gaining weight!

I understand. I have been battling for 5 months now. I get very frustrated when I feel like i should be able to lose 20 pounds by now. But no ... just 7. But then I realize hey 7 pounds less is still a win, all I can do is keep trying. We are all here for you. Don’t give up.

Hi Skyheart. I want to support you in your journey, but if you’re anorexic, should you really be here with this goal? I know counting calories likely comes second nature by now, but being surrounded by it is not going to help your health. I know there are a few other people on this forum with eating disorders. I’ve seen some trying to gain, but often without success. Gaining weight with anorexia is rarely about eating more. If you have anorexia and are also working towards a really big loss...that’s just not healthy. The quickest way to happiness is not reaching your target weight. It’s finding a good counselor and working toward body acceptance.

Take it one pound at a time. Just tell yourself “I don’t have to lose 20 pounds, I just have to lose 1.” Believe me this helps a lot.

@tpw819 that’s actually a good idea! Thank you 🙏🏻

@jenk256 I really appreciate your concerns and care about me but it’s not something I control. But I promised myself to reach my goal weight and then stop ❤️
