Wednesday - January 16

I always find it interesting that when I am thinking more about the quality and quantity of my food intake I spend so much more time at the grocer and reading recipes (than when ‘anything goes’ and despite over eating I have no interest in food).

When I try to pair ‘better eating habits’ with that I find myself taking smaller bites, savoring the food on my tongue, not washing it down with a beverage right away, etc., that I enjoy the food better. Also gives my brain time to accept I’m no longer hungry or even craving more.

So these are good things if I could just remember to do them daily, every bite at a time, forever.

However, while my goal is to abandon snacks altogether, I have spent a lot of time and effort and wasted too much money on food and cookware lately trying to make my own (via recipes) … and they’ve all been a fail so far. Especially kale chips. Great theory; horrid execution. Same goes for Meringue clouds and baked Parmesan cheese crisps. Oh, yeah, those oatmeal cups. And that one mug cake. All fails.

I read ‘sugar free’ and ‘low carb’ recipes continuously, mark my ‘favorites’ to try, load up my grocery cart and viola: a big hot mess. I don’t know what I’m expecting but it’s nothing like the finished process.

So while I am going to try two more (baked apple crisps and zucchini roll-ups) I’m resigned to buying something prepackaged with the caveat of ‘five ingredients or less and all something I can pronounce’.

But I will continue the recipe reads and grocer browsing. Especially at Whole Foods when possible. There is just something about that store that feeds my soul as much or more than my stomach.

Bella ... At least you are trying out new things. That is a great start. Keep it simple. Best plan. Even with your meals. Meat and veg. Eggs and bacon. Salads. Easy peasy. I wish we had a Whole Foods nearby.

I do the same thing. In the last 2 years I gained back the 71 (count them) lbs plus 12 I had no interest in food except to have a food party to take my mind off everything. I guess I will have to start journaling here on my own page instead of yours. LOL. I feel comfort here. I’ll go home now

How cute, Neptune. I am sure Bella enjoys your company as I do. I have really missed both of you. Let's chat.

I enjoy you both. I've missed y'all and FS. I'll try to stick with it this time. Journal away in the comments all you want!

Bella just do your own thing as you always have. We all need to step away at times. I have but I find I gain weight when I leave ... so I try to at least check in if nothing else.

hi Bella! I remember you were ordering from a service that prepared all the ingredients together, and delivered them to your home. You only had to assemble them for your meals. Or am I mistaken? How was that service? Did you quit it?

Same here. When I step away I gain weight. Typically, that is because I am not making time for me. I start rushing everything....food (quick and poor choices). Snacks and eating for all other reasons except for hunger. I love Whole Foods and wish we had one here. You are right it does things for me that have nothing to do with the food...lol. Thankfully, we do have a Trader Joe's, but it still is not Whole Foods. Just keep trucking along :)

(Nodding to the Whole Foods comments) We don't have one local either - I wish we did - I just make it a point to visit when I go to a town that has one. I use the prepackaged service for a while and the convenience was great but I haven't ordered a delivery for a while because there were too many times when I felt they weren't picking the freshest of produce or equal portions of meat (and that was disparaging when I'd planned for a guest for dinner). But we finally got local grocery delivery here in my town and imho the shoppers make better choices so I'll occasionally look at the app for upcoming meal ideas as it lists ingredients and preparation but then order my groceries local.
