59Carol's Journal, 30 December 2018

I hate the shift upward after a lovely streak of losing since September. I know it is 1.5 pounds and I also know when it 'happened'. I just plain overate. Nothing special or exciting. Also along the way there was some heavy tasting comfort food. I was shocked at how ill I felt from eating nuts and bolts (the salt, oil and sugar was an overload), how heavy in my stomach a turkey and gravy mixture on potatoes felt all night long. I guess I had gotten used to eating super well and when I was stepping off that plan my body was not a happy camper. It has been a relief to go back to eating well again. So now it is next Sunday for the next benchmark!

As I mentioned yesterday we were expecting a big dump of snow. It wasn't as bad as 10 inches probably more like 5 inches. I shoveled my porch this morning, walked to the top of the driveway to 'plant' the 'please snow plow my road' sign. I took some pictures of my acreage as I walked back. There is one from the top of the driveway which is mainly trees(really my house is just behind those trees!), there is one where you can see I was breaking trail, one with the barn showing our turnaround and one of our barn with the teepee poles in the distance.

I just can't get excited about the beauties of snow. It's like knowing a handsome man who's a jerk, he loses his looks really fast. That's how I feel about snow. I know it from the shovel end. Gah! I hates it! Forever!! (gollum voice). But that doesn't matter. All that matters is that you love it, and that's cool. You have a great place there that I'd love to see ... without the snow covering all it's features. :)

You are funny LZenn. It is one of those things that if you don't embrace where you currently are at geographically, it is hard to be satisfied. In all honesty our area is at its most beautiful in June. We have the sun darn near 22 hours then and everything is green. There are stories of pioneers arriving in June, falling in love, settling and then learning to deal with winter to get to June again.

I can imagine. That's how I always thought Minnesota was able to be settled. Folks arrived in the beautiful summer, swam and fished in the bazillion lakes, farmed the level lands, hunted the ample woods, then winter hit and it was too late to leave. Their wagons were now all converted to utility buildings or were buried beneath drifts so high they couldn't even find them no less manage to drive them through waist deep snow. So they just learned to tough it out.

Exactly!! Then, in time, you just learn to love it in self defense. Lol. When we moved here in 1981 it was in August. That winter it was the coldest on record -- -58F for two weeks in Dec-Jan. We thought it was normal and wondered what the heck we had gotten ourselves into. I was a brand new teacher and did not want to move for at least 3 years in order to establish a reputation. It has never that cold for that long again thank goodness! And we are still here! I never did work for a different school division. Interesting how things work out.

That is SO beautiful! You are so lucky to live there!! Don't worry that gain will go away in no time - it's just a little holiday glitch!

That is so gorgeous! You are lucky to live in such a beautiful place!! I remember from living in Minnesota that the snow looks lovely from inside the house - not so much from the other end of a shovel :)

Hi eross, I just checked the internet days it is around 18 hours however it does feel like 22 hours. On June 21 you can watch the sun move around the horizon and then come back up again. Quite the sight!
