Good morning, guys and dolls!

So, I did good yesterday. I stayed away from sugar. The closest I got was a sugar free candy bar, made for diabetics and "weight losers". I have had these on a regular basis, they're pretty good, and they've helped me stay on track.

I've had all my water - and then some.

The result? I gain a pound. Sigh. NO fun.

Oh well, just keep going, Keld.

I am really bothered with this whole thing. It annoys the hell out of me. I do NOT want to pass the 90 kg line - and I am closer and closer more and more often.

I had a serious talk with Wife about it today. She's afraid of getting heavier too. She loves the weight she's at, but she feels it sneaking up on her too.

The good news about that is that she's probably gonna be more focused on the foods we bring into the house - or rather what foods to NOT bring into the house. I hope this works.

I have decided to take over a good chunk of the cooking. Wife likes to cook, but often times she's really tired from work, insists on cooking anyways, but does "something easy" that isn't too good for us. Those days I will take the reins and do something better.

There is simply too much at stake to NOT do this.

I know. I'm hard on myself. I have to be. I see the weight crawling up, I NEED to be hard on myself. I need to shape up. Better than I have done before. I need to get going on exercise. I need to focus when I eat. I need to do right.

I know I say it over and over. It helps me remind me of the mission. Stay focused, Keld.

Yesterday I did do well, with the foods that we had.

Breakfast was the usual bread, eggs and ham. Nothing out of the ordinary, actually a few less calories in the bread.

Lunch was leftovers, meatless spaghetti. Basically spaghetti in a tomato sauce. It was a heavy meal - and maybe the reason for today's gain - but it was low on calories.

Dinner was a chicken leg and white bread. Sadly, the veggies that we had planned on having were no good. :(

In between I had a few things, but no sugar stuff. I wanted to, oh boy did I want to, but I didn't. Those sugar cravings can really kill. :( I got through it though, and I will consider yesterday a success no matter what I weigh today.

Today I leave early from work. I gotta go check out Daughter's new school. I'm excited about that, but also concerned for my calorie intake. I believe we're supposed to eat there, and I have no idea what they're serving. I'll have to wing it and evaluate on the spot.

I absolutely hate doing that.

It is what it is, though, and I'll get through it.

Since I am NOT gonna do Indulgence Day, I have about 2000 (or up to) calories to spend on a regular day. I can easily fit everything in there. I do want to try going a tad lower, just to boost things a little.

I wish I could say that I don't lose any of my weight because I don't eat enough. It is not the case. I know exactly what I am doing wrong, and it's all in the sugars. I've had such a hard time staying away from them. However, it's gotta end, and it's gotta end now. I guess, techincally, it has already ended, since I did good yesterday. :)

So here is Sugar Free day two. :)

- Sugar Free Day One yesterday. Maybe I should start counting? actually, that's a good idea. But since I am "officially" doing that from today, then let's call today #1.
- So, Sugar Free Day One TODAY. :) Yesterday was warmup.
- Morning Coffee!
- Going to see Daughter's school.

may a reason for your weight issue is because you are still healing from the surgery. you know...you were through a tough time recently and maybe your body just needs some relaxation? well done with the 'warm up no sugar day'. i'm sure you do a great job!

joelae, I am sure it has something to do with it. It's part of the healing - not all weight gain is fat. However, I do think I'm doing "wrong" and need to get on track. I can't blame it all on fluids. If only I could. :)

HEY have you tried cutting out the bread and pasta? I KNOW these trigger sugar cravings for me, and its scientifically proven they (Simple Carbs) cause spikes in insulin production which cause cravings for more sugar ect ect.. bottom line- bread pasta rice potato BAD for us losers! I’ve been back on the running wagon, feels awesome i gotta say. Id fallen off the wagon over the summer but its ass kicking time Keld, don’t make me come over there! :) “The first step is to develop an understanding of the biochemical concept of blood sugar control. Research has confirmed many of us simply cannot eat sugars and grains without it leading to out of control eating. You can check this out for yourself. Examine the sensitive nature of your own blood sugar, the highs and lows, the cravings created, and the physical, emotional, and mental response you have to both high and low blood sugars. Sorry- Forgot to add, less Simple Carbs in equals less sugar cravings in conclusion. I know this is true for me and maybe can help you guys too?! Fill your diet with complex carbs, fruit vegies ect and high lean protien, makes you fuller longer and cuts the cravings to nothing. The first few days are tough but it gets easier. Its my personal spin on Atkins and it works well for me, maybe will work for you?

Well done on not giving in to the sugar cravings... My issue is, staying away from the drink... I know regularly drinking alcohol is not good for you, so I try to have abstinence days. Depending on what I have been doing, it is either hard or easy. When I was counting calories, I cut it out all together.... Now, I seem to use it as a reward - when I have been working extra hard - bad reason/ practise. Maintenance / slipping back Into previous bad habits, is hard sometimes. I put a post up yesterday, something that appeared on my FB page, about "why people regain weight". I found it interesting - not mind blowing..... But then I realise why we regain. Have a Great day

I second what sarahduke says but would like to add: By skipping protein at lunch with your spaghetti and sauce, you've basically just eaten the equivalent of a candy bar for lunch (as far as insulin spikes go). That in itself will trigger the sugar cravings. Adding good proteins in with the carbs would at least slow down the insulin response and not cause as much of a spike.

Sk1nnyfuture, your right about alcohol, but your damned if you do, and damned if you dont. If you "reward" yourself, that's positive reinforcement, and not good. Then if you drink when you have a hangover, that's also positive reinforcement. Aghghh!!

I agree with sarahduke. Breads, and especially white breads, I think, break down to sugar much faster. I know this keeps ME craving sweet stuff, for sure. Good job on leaving it alone yesterday to the extent that you did.

Hey Keld.... just popped by to see how you were. I am so happy Sarahduke brought up the carbs. She explained it better than I could have. The breads and pastas all turn to sugar. I noticed you abstained from what you thought was sugar but still ate bread and pasta. Eat meats and veggies and once in a potato. Eat fats for energy ... just no grains. Try it for one week. Your body is on to you. Time to tweak your foods. That is my plan now... it's a lifetime commitment for me.
