Day 4 of a planned 5 day 'no solid food fast'

Blood sugar 90 mg/dL

👍 Wow, Another 2 pound loss 😊

🥛 I now feel that, for me, consuming large amounts of "Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder", heavy cream, and Splenda does not slow my weight loss, in fact it seems to speed it up. I go through the day with my energy at maximum level. There is no indication that I have not had solid food since Sunday night.

🧘🏾‍♂️ Some personal thoughts about fasting. I feel, fasting is about managing water. I don’t need to consume any calories as long as I have fat on my body, but I do need electrolytes. When they are ‘out of balance’ you will experience lethargy, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea or constipation (then you will dehydrate and die! ⚰️). If you have plenty of water you can avoid the dehydration part, but you will periodically experience the effects of electrolyte imbalance.

☠️ This is unpleasant! This is why people may feel that fasting is hard.

😎 For me this current fast has been a breeze. I could keep this up for a month. I only intend to end it because I have family functions (Mom’s cooking!). I look forward to restarting the fast next week.

The reasons I think this fast has been so easy:

🌟 I am consuming over 900 calories in protein drinks
🌟 I take an ‘electrolyte concentrate’ that provides magnesium, sodium, chloride, and potassium, and zinc
🌟 I exercise a lot

🌊 In the past, I have tried drinking a lot of electrolyte infused water (Fiji water) but, it will not replace the electrolytes faster than I am expelling water, and also made matters worse because too much water dilutes the electrolytes that I do have in my body. When fasting only an electrolyte concentrate like "Hi-Lyte Electrolyte Concentrate" 2-3 times a day relieves any symptoms.

📷 I am posting a picture from yesterday because it is the best I think I will look for several weeks. While my muscles look wayyyy better than a month ago when I was this weight, I still expect some muscle loss as I try to lose an additional 10 pounds. I don’t expect to look better again until I re-start my ‘bulking up’ phase.

Have a good day everyone!

@keilin-4 - Thanks! I cut off the bottom of the picture that shows some SERIOUS belly fat. This is why I am trying to drop an additional 10 pounds.

@Draglist - Thanks. I know what I am saying goes against some 'conventional wisdom' but I am only describing my experience. I have 'slogged through a fast' in the past. I tried 'drinking a lot of liquids' ect. I keep experimenting and trying new things. This time around I tried to put together all things that seemed to work well in te past. My only concern was that 'making the fast easier' would slow the actual weight loss. I was actually ok with that. However, so far, this is the fastest loss I have ever experienced in my life :)

Shall we cal you Buff! Baby!. Great work, it's paying off!

@chesgreen - Thanks man! I STILL don't know what I am doing. Just trying things and sometimes they work. Next week I plan to follow this same protocol but it may not work so well because this time I was coming off a 2 week 'bulking' period. Perhaps all this is just water weight...

@jenjabba - Haha! Thanks! But, let's revisit this in 9 months and see if I can live up to that by then :)

great advise and I do like your electrolyte brand. Awesome that you feel comfortable and can be so active in your planned protein fuel.

@Baskington - Thanks1 'So far' the protein drink has been working so well that I considered following this protocol when I am 'bulking up'... then realized that this 'protocol' is causing me to lose up to 2 pounds a day! This would-not-help-me-bulk-up (sigh) So it appears I MUST have carbs to gain weight. I guess I could try 3,000 calories in protein drink, but that doesn't seem like a safe thing to do...

not necessarily, you can try eating keto with a nice big steak and fat bombs maybe a nice rueben on that low carb bread if you can deal with that, on workout days and see how that feels. You already know how carb loading feels. You have so many options you can try. Think about how to easily get a couple thousand calories above your protein drinks that you would be comfortable with and enjoy. You are a planner! It is more fun to enjoy yourself than to make yourself miserable.

@baskington - I will give that a try on the next 'bulking phase' :)

the big bulky trainer I met yesterday at the gym is a keto for life guy. and he is definitely not short of bulk or weight. don't get me wrong he is not fat but he definitely is built.

Wow! You're killing it! You're an inspiration to me. Keep it up!

@baskington - Hmmm I will see how much muscle I can build without gaining weight on the next round...
30 Aug 18 by member: adefwebserver
@SunnieSunny - Thanks! Things are going well for now, however, next week I expect my glycogen stores wont be so 'full'. My body may start turning all this Protein into glucose rather than converting the existing fat (this is as I desire). If this happens my results will-be-way-different. I could even gain weight (additional glucose storage requires water molecules and this adds 'water weight'). My plan is to keep my net carbs below 10 a day to force my body to continue to need to turn to fat for additional glucose. I also intend to keep exercising and lifting weights to force my body to continue to NEED glucose. But, for now I will take the 'win' :)
