Day 2 of a planned 5 day ‘no solid food fast’

Blood sugar 85 mg/dL

Yesterday was super easy. No hunger at all. I held off drinking any protein powder (other than the scoop I put in my morning coffee), until late in the day.

My new way of drinking it, during the day, is to put one scoop of “Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder” in a “shaker cup” with Splenda and then pour a third of it at a time into a coffee mug and then add a half cup of hot water from the Keurig. This is so amazing you will want to die it tastes so good!

The only problem is that half an hour later I want another one, and another one. It only has 2 net carbs per scoop (and I only have 1 scoop during the day at work), but I have to be careful because my body can start treating the extra protein like carbs so I may need to cut it out if I feel it is affecting my weight loss.

I started the day off with a 5 mile run as soon as I woke up. I love running. I really missed fasting and running. So glad to be back to it.

Today I plan to go to the gym after work. I plan to get through all my sets, but, I will lower the weight since I am now 'fasted'. Also, I may not do deadlifts for awhile because on Sunday my hip felt sore and that was the only lift where I felt it. I also felt soreness in my hip on my run. I don’t need any injuries or anything messing up my running!

Have a good day everyone!

this is different, your normal scoop seemed to keep you satisfied. I wonder what the difference is there

@baskington - I think te difference is the time of day. In the past it was either in the morning or at night. Perhaps the hot water is an issue. Mostly, when I am fasting I never want to 'feel full'. This makes me 'feel full'. That *is* the trigger in me.

Great post and thanks for the information. it is interesting how our body converts the excess protein into glucose. good stuff.

Sorry that you've got some pain during your exercise - hope it is just something that needs a little rest and it will be fine soon! Hope you don't have to cut out your shakes because I know you love them. Enjoy your fast!

maybe you need to go back to your normal routine with the protein. I know you have been happy and comfortable with even 900 calories of your drink when you have it in your normal manner. Funny how one little change can change things. You track so well that you can pinpoint where things go off.

@baskington - I will 'play it by ear'. I am at the 'halfway' point in my day and my stomach feels 'empty'. No hunger (after day 1 there is no actual hunger). This is that 'freedom from constant desire for food' that I seek from a fast. I just feel that if I take in some protein at this point, I will feel 'full' and that will change. I will eventually take in some protein later today because I have to lift weights at te gym tonight, but 'consuming' calories is just something my body doesn't need to do :) It needs energy, yes, but it has plenty hanging around my mid section hahah

@nikeit - Hip feels totally fine now, let's see what happens when I get to the gym... :)

Good luck on your work out today! Hopefully your hip will be fine. Definetly not worth putting you out of commission. Also try reducing your shake to half or 2/3 the size as usual. That way it’s not too much.

@CrashtestDawnie - Thanks! I tried to reduce the amount of protein powder today, but me and 'self control' never got along :( The hip was totally fine, but I did put less weight on the bar for the deadlifts. However, I did all my other lifts with the normal weight. It seems I can 'carb up' on the protein shake and still lift my normal weight... However, let's see if I can still do that on Thursday when I will be 4 days fasted...
