Miraculum's Journal, 15 June 2018

Another two weeks of research and study... I had misunderstood what I'd read about fats in coffee: They do break a fast. Maybe it was just "wishful thinking"! I'm determined to get it right. So, no more heavy whipping cream in coffee. I've also learned that the health benefits of IF do not include weight loss!

Imagine my surprise and disillusionment.

Ha! One after another, I have to let go of the crutches that have made me fat!

The second half of June will go even better than the first half, now that I'm gaining more understanding. My blood ketone meter will be arriving tomorrow. Time to buckle down on this project!

yes, it will 🙂, you still can lose weight with IF if you have a calorie deficit. I love it, because it helps me to stay away from food , it is a way to control my mind

IF just like any other trick is just a tool that can help some. It comes down to CICO in the end and using methods that you can stick to for life.

I haven't started IF yet (also KETO) - thinking I'll wait until I have a few days off. Have also been doing a ton of research and learning - brainpower is fuel for change.

I am a Dr. Fung follower so I am totally with the: "The problem is insulin" thinking. Therefore I think I can understand why you would not want to do anything that will derail this. So I make my decisions based on what causes my blood sugar to spike or not. Always remember to be kind to yourself.

I believe per Dr. Fungs book I am currently reading, that fat such as coconut oil is ok for fasting. I’m adding 1/2 teaspoon to my hot tea and it’s tasteless so I’m ok with it. Fats shouldn’t spike your BS like carbs and surprisingly protein. I had no idea that excess protein is converted to glucose in your blood! Eyeopener 👁

During a fast, small amounts of pure fat or almost pure fat (a spoonful of olive or coconut oil, a pat of butter), and for some, even a very small amount of solid food, such as macadamia nuts or walnuts—something that is primarily fat with a negligible amount of carbohydrate and little to no protein—can be consumed without interfering with the physiological benefits of the fast. Direct quote from his Fasting book.

Isn't Dr Fung the one who recommends a tablespoon of butter with coffee every hour for 6 hours on a longer fast? Does he have many rules or just options?!? IDK, I thought 600 calories of butter seemed odd, maybe it was another Dr. Thought it was in one of the books on Obesity or fasting by Dr Fung...or something. It seems odd to call it fasting if you are scarfing down 600 calories of butter but it isn't my bag so not sure if this matters. Fasting? VLCD? Find what works?!?

@Diablo360, for T2 diabetics, CICO is not the whole story.

2fitdocs on YouTube tested all of the different fats in coffee to see if they affected their bs and ketones. They did another video to see if the combo for bulletproof coffee would affect them. I think the only questionable one was coconut oil but you can check our their videos.

I get overwhelmed trying to do research online. I look mostly for my health issues, things like inflammation that can affect the heart, cholesterol - and what kind of diet is the best for those issues. Although I know if I can follow what my doctor says to do (so far I can't, too hard and I don't like to eat as many plants as he suggests) that I'll lose weight and probably not have high cholesterol. Not sure about the inflammation - the readings are always way, way above the higher risk category. Mira - let me know if you come across any research showing potato chips and/or ice cream is good for you!

Fritzy, since the force of gravity on the moon is 1/6 that of earth, I *think* we can eat six times as much potato chips and ice cream and still weigh the same ... or something like that! LOL!

Mira - not sure I understand - do you mean I have to go to the moon to eat chips and ice cream?
15 Jun 18 by member: Fritzy 22
Fritzy, you *can* -- and may -- eat ice cream and chips on earth, of course. But, if you're the star of "My 600-Pound Life" (or "Fat Doctor" in the UK), you'd only weigh 100 pounds on the moon! (I'm joking!)

If helps me cause I can have two big meals, so I can still feel like a fat ass with out being one. That sh!t of eating 6small meals gives me depression n makes me want to give up. But no IF don’t burn fat. Weights help u build muscle n when u are on a calorie deficit all u lose is fat.

I thought u had said fat, sorry

Weight loss, yes as long as ur keto diet has a calorie deficit u are good. It’s just a matter of time now
