Day 6 of a planned 11 day fast

I'm past the halfway mark of my fast. All the discomfort to adjusting to ketosis is done. Energy is stable, and hunger is non-existent (the desire for food never goes away).

Today I plan to increase my normal 5 mile run to 7 miles. I also plan to work out with weights.

Advantages of day 5+ of a fast:

1) You can get on the scale multiple times a day and watch it go down each time.
2) You wakeup and go about your day without the need to even drink a cup of coffee
3) You save a ton of money because you're not buying any food.

Dis-Advantages of day 5+ of a fast:

1) You have to constantly use mouthwash because your breath smells bad and you have to use deodorant multiple times a day because your increased sensitivity to smell makes you sensitive to the smell of your own perspiration (and of others).
2) You have to plan your life around being near a bathroom at least every 2 hours.
3) Food is like sex, you don't have to have it, but you desire it.
182.5 lb Lost so far: 24.5 lb.    Still to go: 18.5 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

I had that problem with the body odor, when I started intermittent fasting , I was feeling terribly , no one antitranspiran deodorant could help me, so I started using my Apple cider vinegar and baking soda instead of deodorant, I swear, all your worries and shames about your smell will go away 😊

the Apple cider vinegar, don't smell good either, so you can use it at night, and the other one a few times during the day, and some times your deodorant. I still use baking soda some times. I am not stinking anymore but I still think it's better be stinking than fat haha

@Keilin_4 - Thanks for the tips! yeah, I'm not going to get out of Ketosis over the body odor issue, I'm just going to keep addressing it :)

@charityg4 - Thanks! I have to keep this up because otherwise I am out of ideas! It would be nice to get into ketosis by eating LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) but I can't seem to do the "LC" part of "LCHF" without just not eating! haha

Great hearing about your fasting experience. I do IF as well as a 24-48 hour fast every week or two. I like to do a longer fast about once every couple months. Longest I do is a 4 day and it's really amazing how great a body can feel on a prolonged fast! Keep at it and good luck to you!!

I asked my doctor about this as I am diabetic and take insulin. HE SAID A RESOUNDING NO! Be sure to ask your doc if you have any health conditions. You must be very healthy to do this.

@anni61lou - You may want to read "The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally" https://amzn.to/2HDj412 - This is a doctor who runs a clinic that helps diabetics through fasting. Not saying this is for you, but be aware that other doctors have other opinions. Take care!

If you are diabetic low carb is for you. Just eat less than 70 carbs per day and plenty of green veggies and lean unprocessed meat (cold cuts are really heavy on the salt. I do an Atkins drink with fresh fruit and ice in the blender. with a little sugar substitute it tastes like a milkshake. Banana strawberry is my favorite. There are many fresh fruits to give you some sweets. Just saying as some of us are not able to do safely do ketosis. Plenty of exercise is good. Walking is the greatest low impact exercise. I love to put on some music and just do free movement dancing for 10 minutes several times a day. Exercise has a residual effect. Just walking or dancing at home for 5 to 10 minutes at a time speeds up your metabolism. At home set your oven timer for 5-10 minutes, put on the music and go. Great for those that spend a lot of time sitting.

What’s the purpose of fasting that long i understand fat loss but I have no problem cutting fat by manipulating macros and by alternating how I eat

I can’t see how fasting that long while lifting weights and running is good I need protein and carbs to recover from a heavy lifting day....or are you just not eating solid food and supplementing

@kwaggoner1988 - Here is the point of fasting for me: There are many people on this site (myself included) who can't simply 'manipulate their macros and alternate how they eat'. This why they ARE FAT :) They try to 'moderate', get some results, 'fall off the wagon' and continue to BE FAT. The problem comes when we take in any food. Something gets triggered in the brain and we get out of control. Fasting bypasses that. Fasting has many other detoxifying benefits, but, for weight loss, this is why it works for me.

@kwaggoner1988 - Working out while fasting is the BEST! You are simply burning fat on your body for energy. Everyone on this site is trying to do that! When you eat 1,000 calories but burn 3,000 calories a day you are HOPING to burn through the 1,000 calories you ate, and then burn fat when you work out. This is the same as when fasting, but you skip the part where you have to burn the 1,000 calories you ate :)
