Ach! Thursdays are my downfall. I attend noon Mass and have a Divine Mercy Centacle (prayer and faith-sharing meeting) afterward. But, in between, every darn Thursday, there's a little reception in the parish hall. Cookies, brownies: my nemeses. I rushed out of the house without packing my go-to fruit, raspberries. I don't want to be "anti-social"! Big mistake!

I ate a brownie and two cookies, but then achieved a bit of a NSV. I went to the supermarket on the way home to buy zucchini...

My brain was screaming BASKIN-ROBBINS!! at the top of its amygdala.

"NO!" I said.

I put the zucchini in my mini shopping cart. Instead of ice cream, I bought sliced turkey and London broil roast beef from the deli. Instead of ice cream, I bought an eight-slice half-loaf of La Brea Sunflower Honey Bread. (Much to my surprise, it's actually listed in the FS Foods database.) And then ... I headed to the self-check-out line. Without ice cream. Without cookies. Without chocolate in any form.

Yes, yes, I ate a quarter pound of turkey on the way home, in the car. (Not sneaking, though, because no one was going to be home when I got there anyway!) Yes, I had two slices of sunflower honey bread and butter with my lunch, but then squished the rest and fed it to the birds.

Yes, I skipped the raspberries. (I'd already exceeded my carb limit. Might as well save them for tomorrow.) And I deleted my planned "snacks/other" from my food diary.

So, my carbs for the day are at 400% of my target (80.83g instead of 20g, 24%); protein still within tolerances (54.16g, 16%); fat kinda low (88.78g, 60%). Still, an NSV: I came in at 80 calories under the daily allotment.

Back to the drawing board. Start again tomorrow. Plan for next Thursday's meeting: Stay out of the parish hall and...

It's mind over matter. Choices and portion control. That's great

"It's mind over matter. Choices and portion control." It sounds so rational. The struggle is no intellectual exercise, as we all know too well! I've always said, "Lack of knowledge has *never* been my problem." Sending me to dieticians and diabetes counselors has always been a waste of time. When I fight the impulse to abandon my eating plan after a "slip," as happened today, it's a bare-knuckles battle. Right down in "the blood and the guts and the beer" (CREDIT: Johnny Cash, "A Boy Named Sue"). Just a week ago, the exact same circumstances led me into a 440gcarb/4000+calorie mega-binge. I'm happy the day is over.

If you keep low carb and keto stuff in the house, then if you want to overeat, you have good choices.
