Let’s talk cheese!! 🧀 Cheese is my best friend and my worst enemy. Some days I feel like it can sabotage my progress but it’s the one thing I can’t get rid of. What are some cheeses that you think are worse than others? Or does it even matter cause it’s all dairy?

From a keto perspective parm and ?aged cheddar? ae best options or better option then other cheeses. For me, since I'm a bit of a cheese snob and have some arthritic or stiffness issues depending on how much I consume it really comes down to taste and use. I can enjoy a Mod pizza with 1/2 cup of mo-z-z and I can always enjoy some aged cheddar with eggs and veggies in the AM. Cheese I enjoy the least is the mass produced, shredded, rubbery and bouncy stuff. I like a good marbled 'from the caves of France' bleu once in a while too. Options.......everywhere!

I love cheddar...and finding yummy cheddars. But I'm going to say this and please don't judge me. I LOVE AMERICAN DELI CHEESE. i know i know.. it's the worst!!!! But, I'm trying to kick my habit of american cheese. Any cheeses that taste like american??? I'm not too picky.. i really do love all cheeses. Another problem is the mass produced shredded cheeses. I know it isn't the greatest because of the ingredients they put in it. But, it makes life so much easier. Ok, i'm really just making excuses to save time in life. and this post is really just a rant... no real substance. hahaha

I LOVE cheese and would choose it over just about any other food. When I lost a few years ago counting calories I had to really limit cheese and I craved it all the time! I love low carb/high fat because I can eat cheese!😁

I also love feta cheese, AprilLifts. But my three favorites at the current time are Bleu Cheese, Havarti Dill, and Smoked Aged Gouda (Boar's Head brand has good options for all three of those). A wonderful thing to do with the Gouda is to shred it using a grater and add it as a garnish. Doing this was my son's idea and I was astounded by how much the flavor exploded in my mouth and the texture is creamy and wonderful. It also allows you to limit the quantity while getting the full flavor experience. I know this thread began as a request for "cheeses worse than others". I limit carbs instead of calories, so I don't worry about it so much. But, because of other health issues, there are some foods that I need to limit, including dairy. My philosophy is to make every taste worth it, so I check for any health benefit (e.g., real cheese over American processed or pre-shredded cheese with additives) and then I look for my favorites and figure out ways to make sure I don't over-do. Having a little crumbled Bleu Cheese on my salad or a couple slices of Havarti Dill melted on top of my beef and veggie bake makes all the difference in enjoyment and likelihood of sticking to my overall plan. Wishing you all the best, Emilydiaz83! I have a "bi-pedal mouse" in my house who loves cheese as much as you do--that would be my son!!

@emikydiaz83 You can pre-grate your own using the grating blade on a food processor. Store in the fridge & it's ready to go. Use the small grating blade for really light & fluffy & you'll get more out if each bite, similar to someone else's post above.

Plus, you eliminate all the chemicals & "sawdust" that is supposedly being used in store bought pre-shredded. Best yet, your flavor choices are now unlimited!

I would have to say 99% of cheeses are pretty safe, as long as it's from the block and not pre-shredded. My favorites are harvati and gouda, for sure. Also, for cream cheese, ALWAYS go for Philadelphia in the block and not the tub. Even though it's the same cream cheese the tub has all of these additives which ups the carb count. Store brand and others have 2g per serving while Philly has <1g.

I love cheese! BUT I find I do lose more if I don't eat it a lot. It's easy to overeat.

I do check the carb count. Sharp Cheddar and Mozzarella are my go to cheeses but I do love cheese, except American cheese. It is weirdly slimy and with all the chemicals, not really cheese but so many people love it which is fine. Shredded cheese may contain cellulose or potato starch which is added to keep the cheese from clumping. I buy the blocks and measure carefully. Being on a low carb WOE lets me eat the cheese I want without the guilt. But not ALL the cheese I want :) Need to stay within 3 - 4 ounces a day which is easy for me.

Mascarpone cheese - sweeter than cream cheese, keeps better than creme fraiche.

I can eat more cheese on Keto now that I am lifting weights 4-5 days a week. It definitely stalled me if I went over 2-3 oz per day when I was just walking and doing Keto. Maybe it's just the calories I'm burning now--100 calories per ounce of cheese adds up quickly.

Why I love keto.

Parmesan cheese is relatively low calorie (10 per tsp) and given it's consistency, a little bit goes a log way.
