I don't mention it a lot but I have diabetes. I know I'm not the only one here. In fact, I meet so many people my age who have the same disease, that it seems like an epidemic. I blame it on a culture of sugary drinks and super sizing. Thank goodness the younger generations are more aware of the consequences of thoughtless eating and poor nutrition. I mention maintenance a lot but it's really more about survival...

John, I lost an Aunt to T2D in the fall of 2015 and it hit me like a ton of bricks. My journey to better health started in Jan 2016 and I am doing everything in my power to not get it. You are a survivor and a warrior. Thanks for being here and cheering me on often in Fitbit as well.

My birth mother and half brother both had diabetes and both were diagnosed in their 40's so that was the disease I was most worried about. Keep up the good fight John.

It really is about survival. I have extreme admiration for anyone fighting that fight. ----BH says he wouldn't have lived more than 5 years had they not started taking health seriously, first with CPAP then radical change of diet. Eventually, I had to follow suit. There've been long periods I subsisted on pints of ice cream (up to 6/day) and pans of brownies. Not since December 2015. I'd be fine maintaining at current size, but couldn't figure out how to do that. Enter FS. --- Survival takes so much work and support. Sugary drinks are so often covert; one friend whose mother died in a diabetic coma drinks SBX frappucinos as "healthy" snacks...multiple per day. People who've tried to point this out come across as fatphobic. We can only do this for ourselves. Yet thanks to people here, it doesn't have to be a solo battle.
