pennym1's Journal, 19 April 2018

This time of year is just a disaster as far as planned eating. I work at a university and have been to some reception or another at least twice a week for 3 weeks already, which means catered food, or people inviting me to eat what wasn't eaten at their event. It's a college; it's hard to say no to free food.

Also, school is winding down for my kids (they are done May 11) and that means sports banquets, band concerts, field trips, and all kinds of other reasons we aren't home cooking dinner, but frantically just trying to eat something before we have to go to bed and to it all over tomorrow.

So, the fact that I'm just hanging out at 152ish is fine. I'm not worried about the number on the scale, because I'm working to re-wire myself to a heart-healthy diet. I'm here to monitor cholesterol. Also, since New Year's, my work clothes fit again, I"m sleeping well and I'm getting to the gym when I can (see crazy ass schedule above).

I had a long chat with my parents and my brother-in-law (separately) about how life is fleeting, and even though we all assume we're going to live to be 90, there are so many of us who don't get to. So, yes, it's important to take care of ourselves, our bodies, our minds, but it's also important to enjoy each day that we get by being around the people we want to be around, loving hard, having a drink, eating a steak. Life's too short to not enjoy each day.

So, even though I'm complaining about being out of routine and over eating, I'll take it because I literally have 5 years before both of my kids are out the door and will want less and less to do with me. The time is now, and if I'm lucky, they'll come back around when they need babysitters, lol!
