Topher2112's Journal, 20 February 2018

I was all over the map this week. On the days I stuck to plan I was way under RDI. On the days I snacked some I didn't record everything but I don't think I was that far over. And one day I ate my weight in sushi. All in all somehow that equaled a loss.

I've been largely in the background here this week as even I'm sick of my whining (Boohoo, I'm still alive.) so I've waited until I've pulled out of it which I think I did yesterday.

Lots of long overdue emails were written yesterday.

SMP, I am on episode 14 of Boys over flowers. Wasn't enjoying the first couple eps as it couldn't seem to pick a tone. But now it has settled on a handful and I'm mostly liking it. Is it just me over have they really outdone themselves sexualizing the high school girls. Those uniform skirts are little more than belts. GOML.

Happy week and hugs to all.
Hope you are feeling better GrumpyGoat.

Nice drop! LOL and you are so right about the sexualization! But the background on Boys over flowers is I was told it was a JAPANESE Anime originally and was originally a Japanese series. So you’ve got the Japanese schoolgirl thing going on there which you add to the Cheabol Korean thing of the super duper snooty rich kids and it kinda fits. I just translated it to a private Beverly Hills country club high school in my head and figured that would be pretty equivalent since you’re talking the upper .0001 % or so of the population. These are not kids you normally see on the street.🤷🏻‍♀️How do you like the little boys club aspect? LOL I always find it strange that they pair the girl with the most arrogant and obnoxious male lead and leave the secondary male character, who is normally MUCH better, free? 💁🏻‍♀️But that must be my grown up taste. I never liked the guys who were rude in school either. 🙅🏻‍♀️I just thought they were rude.

Knowing the Japanese roots makes a few things make more sense. In the F4 the two 'other' members that (so far) barely have names, why aren't they one character? Will there be a reason later on? This doesn't have the usual spilling over with scads of family members. Lots of orphans, single parents, no grand parents and only the Jan Di has any siblings (that we know of.) It's a weird build for a Korean show but not so much a Japanese one. The Heathers are doing a surprisingly good job as I really want someone to punch them. Yeah, I've become use to them not giving the secondary characters a formulaic happy ending. I like that in fact.

I don’t think there was ever a reason they weren’t one character except so they could talk to each other and explain plot points! LOL And you’re right about the strange lack of family ties for a Korean drama. I never thought about it because I watch Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese pretty much interchangeably and here in the US it’s just a story point. But family and elders are SO important and made so mych of, especially when it comes to marriage contracts! Reminds me of stories my grandmother told of Victorian era times and being a Catholic and how it impacted getting married or not. LOL 🤷🏻‍♀️
