chesgreen's Journal, 19 December 2017

Hi Journal,

I writing in you for therapy. I need some right now.

Stress has been extremely high recently.
1) I have an adult son with special needs who is going through a rough patch for the last 3 weeks and it takes a lot of strength, courage and patience to keep all calm in my house even though I am screaming on the inside "My head is under water"
2) My workload in the office is through the roof as I wrap up the year before heading for vacation for 10 days starting Dec 23rd. I have been glued to my desk and this has been keeping me away from lunchtime power walks which helped my out tremendously both mentally and physically.
3) The commute has been brutal lately and we can't adjust our evening departure times just because(with an average of 10 us on the van, it is almost impossible to get all to leave early). As a result, when I walk in my door after hours on the road, I now have less than 2 hrs before I have to go to sleep. (In 2018, I may have to sacrifice a little sleep and get up @ 4 AM Mon and Wed to get in 20 minutes of HIIT runs on the treadmill, Tues & Fri evenings, 45 minutes Weight training, Saturday & Sunday long walks / runs. I have to play around and see what works for me)

OK. Now that is off my chest, I need you to know my FS family, you are very important to me. Thanks for being there for me. I will get past this and I am getting stronger somehow some way and I will end with...

I can do this.

-Ches

By the way, this morning I as soon as I got in the office and unlocked my drawer, I opened a zip lock back that had 3 emergency cookies in it, emptied the contents into the trash to my right, poured the tail end of my coffee onto it and also poured some Apple Cider Vinegar onto it (bye bye poison happiness)

:)

Ches you are doing great considering what you have on your plate. Enjoy your vacation when it arrives. I know my vacation this year did me a world of good. I felt like a new person after it.

Ches - I read the 3 issues you named and tried to figure out how I would handle them. I couldn't come up with anything. #1 - I had a neighbor with a special needs son and we were friends - about once a week she would come over to my house after I got home for work for "happy hour". It was when she was able to have someone be with her son so she could get away and unwind. I honestly don't know how she handled the constant stress and anxiety she dealt with in making sure her son was happy, healthy and being cared for. #2 I guess the only thing I can see is you just have to get through Friday and then you have 10 days to relax (hopefully). I retired young, at 56 because I was just tired of a high stress job. There were times when I would come in to work and write "480" on a scratch pad - the number of minutes left to work and during the day keep changing it to whatever was left in my work day. Sounds silly, but it helped to see the day was progressing. #3 your commute. Since you are in a van pool I assume you have a long commute. If you have the flexibility to adjust your schedule could you just drive yourself to work for the rest of the week? I do have another suggestion some people may not like, but when I suffered from extreme anxiety after a recent fire in my area my doctor prescribed an anti anxiety medication. It helped calm me down when I was unable to unwind or relax at all. He had me come back after 2 weeks to see how I was doing and I told him I wasn't taking the medication anymore, just needed it for about a week. Anyway, I am sure you will get through this, you seem like a very strong person and I hope you have a wonderful vacation and holiday. Gail

You are such a strong willed person.

You are a positive person and you know where the problems lie, but sometimes there just aren't any good answers. Just keep on hanging on by your fingernails and toenails until you mini vacation. A Ches clone could help too as you are trying to do way too much for that 24 hour day.

I bet you felt a little better after writing this post. Sometimes putting the feelings on paper really helps. One thing I noticed is after acknowledging all the crappy feelings associated with the stress you are in right now you still had the strength to throw out the cookies. That sir is a WIN!!! We are here for you ...

You have a lot on your plate and you are doing great. Great job with managing the cookie temptation. Get whatever exercise you can without depriving yourself of sleep. You really are doing super. You've got this. I believe in you.

Thanks 8Patty, Pam, Fritzy, Fluffy, Sally, Newnbetter, Gary, AmandaK & 2426girl. Your words are encouraging. @Fritzy 22 - 3 more days!! @newnbetter, a further test of will power was passing by 4 cakes in our kitchen area on the way back to my desk with a salad in my hands around 1 PM. The chocolate one, I could have faceplanted it but I kept it moving. I am strong, thx @SMP. I am courageous. My superpowers have been now been restored. On to the next battle... Keeping the bottle cap on the beer and the cork in the wine bottle when I get home, it's only Tuesday. I can do this....

This is the worst time for us all; treats abound, stress with family coming home or not coming home, shopping to be done, and getting ready for vacations and all the other events that drive us to overeat and head for the cookie box. All we all do is keep on keeping on. Just know Ches, we are all in this together. You were strong ditching the cookies. Way to go.

I and we feel your pain - Letting us know hopefully will relieve stress - Stress itself is just so hard on the body - When I am stressed I listen to music , whatever your genre to relax - You might listen in the van too - Sometimes I just like to meditate - I have a recumbent bike and I do that - Do favorite things you enjoy - Sometimes it just never ends but take 1 problem at a time , overcome it, scratch it off the list and do the next one - I pray also . It gives me strength , hope and faith that tomorrow will be a better day . Dance if you got it - lol - You got a vacation coming up to and that will be great - I hope your days become a lot brighter - Happy Holidays to you and your family

Thanks ggreen67, john10251 and johnwentzville. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Got home to the smell of baked goods. 2 tins of oatmeal raisin, 2 tins if chocolate chip cookies sitting on a side table. I can do this. Made fried eggs and pepperoni. Ending the night now with cup of tea with half and half. No booze, no cookies. I win! Good night.
