kingkeld's Journal, 22 March 2012

I slept great! This morning, I feel really good, and I feel that I'm ready to take on the day. It's a good thing, because today is a LONG day, for several reasons:

1. I'm going in an hour early, to prepare for meetings today. I have my first day with interviews this week, and I've got three of them! That's fine though, I've had a couple of good days where I have situated myself to be a little more prepared on things.

2. I have tomorrow off, and so does Wife. She works in the same building as I do - and for her to have the day off, she wants to do tomorrow's work today, lat. That's fine, and I will just stay after work and wait for her. So today will be something like a 12 hour work day for me. I'm gonna me mush by the end of the day, I think. I can do it though, and it will do wonders for my comp time later on. :)

Last night I was so sleepy, I felt like I was a cast member of The Walking Dead. :) It was good though, and I slept like a rock all night. I feel refueled this morning, and I'm good to go.

Wife and I had our usual breakfast, and a good chat. I love our mornings.

I did gain 400 grams back since yesterday, but that's okay. I lost 1600 grams the day before, and this is just the usual fluctuation game. It's still a lot more fun when the number goes DOWN than when it goes up, though. I'm used to it, but it STILL gets to me. It's weird, how it affects me.

I gotta say, I'm really looking forward to April 2nd, to get the FINAL FINAL FINAL weigh-in and hopefully reach my goal, and then be done with chasing 77 kgs.

After the surgery I expect to be several kgs lighter, and I hope I will be able to maintain this new low afterwards. I should be. It will be easier to exercise, and easier to move around in general. Losing a few kgs on that account is of course in a sense "cheating", but it should help me stay within the "normal" weight range from there and on. It does annoy me a little that I am more often above 77 kgs (the limit for normal BMI for me) than I am under. I want to be under, just by a little, and it doesn't happen too often.

I, of course, understand that the excess skin weighs quite a bit, and this is one of the things that are holding me back. There simply isn't a whole lot of fat to lose. My smart smart scale can't even measure it unless I weigh in on a day where I am SUPER low, dehydrated and all. A normal weigh-in like today and yesterday (where I was pretty low) will give me an "out of bounds" error when it tries to measure fat percentage.

So these days I mostly stick to measuring my weight, and not my body fat. It's rare that I get those extra numbers, but when I do I usually get a fat percentage of 5 or 6. Super low.

I wonder how that number looks after the skin removal? Will that make me gain in fat percentage, or lose? Will it give me more accurate numbers, or is it gonna be even more out of whack? Only time will tell.

I finally found that documentary "The Real Skinny", which deals with the surgery that I'm getting (hopefully). I started watching it, but stopped fairly quickly. The first being, that it's simply too freaky to see what they're gonna do. I stopped when I saw a surgeon with a huge piece of bloody meat. It looked like something from a Saw movie. One thing is a good horror movie, another is knowing that they're gonna cut a chunk out of me and SEEING IT! LOL. Yes, I admit it. I'm a wimp. I'll probably watch it later, after the fact.

Today I am thankful for:
- Sleep, sleep, sleep. All night. Loved it!
- Having had three interview free days to catch up.
- Friday off! No band practice, but a fun day instead. More on that tomorrow, I think.
- Kitty cat. She's so cute.

Have a great Thursday, my friends. I hope it's not as long a work day for you as it will be for me.

Life is good!

Nothing like a good nights sleep :-) interesting about the BF% - I would imagine your BF will go up, after the op. They will be taking away 'skin', I guess there will be a little fat there. Your bone, water, muscle will weigh the same - your weight will go down, so the % of your body that is 'fat' will be slightly higher - - - I think!*!*!*. My brain hurts LOL. I was reading something the other day about bio impedance BF reading scales. Apparently, they also rely on the age you punch in. They look at the 'norm' for your age as well... Example if you are 50 and your reading is 20%; If you change your age to 30 it may change to 10%; conversely if you change it to 70, your % may go up to 30%. They were advising NOT to change your age as you get older!! This is especially true for women, who accumulate fat in the lower part of their body.

Sazy - THANKS! SkInny - I know, my brain hurts too! :) I do think the body fat measurements are for entertainment purposes only on these scales. They give us a ball park idea, but that's about it. I do find it interesting that they consider age too. Not sure why they would.

I just tried it Keld - I took 30 years off my age, (oh that it was as easy as pressing a button LOL) and lost 4% BF!!. They are good for keeping track of 'trends'

are you using an electric body fat measuring scale? those measure the resistance of your body, make as assumption on what '0% body fat' resistance would be and decide on your actual % based on deviation from this number. (as far as i've understood the process anyways). I can imagine excess skin throws this calculation off to be honest. since the resistance calculation doesn't use your weight, I reckon you'll see an improvement. Hope you get good news on your assessment. They'll want to ensure the operation is safe so I guess you have to go through some sort of screening. Definitely don't watch those videos :) I think skin weighs quite a bit so you'll definitely drop by a few kilos. but I reckon you're in the area where the number on the scale does't matter that much anymore. (except in this case for the screening). you've already won the game bigtime. you planning to purchase a speedo for the summer? :D

Yay! New picture. You look so handsome!

I too like the new pic. I guess I have one of those not so smart scales since it doesn't measure body fat. At this point, I'm not sure I want it to. Knowing that you have off tomorrow will made today that much easier. Enjoy.

Great pic! You look so much younger. Have you thought about having professional pics taken now that you have lost your weight? I know some people do that as a reward after avoiding cameras for so long. I'm glad that you finally had a good night's rest. Have a great day :)

Hi King, Yes I dont like blood, and the concept of all that chopping really freaks me out! I sure dont want to watch it! I am excited for you though. Have a nice (long) day. Enjoy your time off tomorrow, I am off too!

I was never shy of the cameras, so I haven't really considered having pro photos done. We take pictures all the time. Speedy? I'm happy to announce to the world that it's never gonna happen. (did I just hear a world wide sigh of relief?)

I would have turned off the documentary too. I wouldn't want to see what they are going to do to me. I think I might chicken out. You are a brave man Keld and so deserving.

Your gratitude lists always remind me to think of what I am thankful for. I guess that means you are on my list. :) All the best to you, King. :)

Thanks, Angel Face. I appreaciate it. I gotta give credits to my buddy madaboutmoose who inspired me (and several others) to do such a list. I think it's a great tool to see the positives in our everyday life. Sometimes it's a big thing like a new job or a huge weight loss, other times it's simply a cup of well made coffee. As Denis Leary says, Happiness comes in small doses.

Great new photo, I have been off for almost a week! I hope I warned you well enough on "the real skinny" being quite REAL! I watched the whole thing and was fascinated. The main problem people had post surgery were infections from not following the doctors directions, not eating well post surgery and not laying low- letting their body heal. Your gonna be awesome! You take this seriously which means you will do awesomely!
