kingkeld's Journal, 07 March 2012

Wow. I don't think I've ever had 46(!) comments on a journal before! Guys, I really appreciate all the kind words - It was a BIG day for me, and I am super excited that I am now this far.

You guys have asked some questions about the surgery, and I'll try to answer as much as I can:

Am I scared?
Not the least. :) I'm aware that it's a huge cut they're gonna make, but I am not really intimidated by it. Not yet, at least. Ask me the day before surgery, and this answer might be different. :)

What are they gonna cut?
Well, the main thing is my belly flap, that constantly is in my way. That's my top priority. The loose skin goes all around me, like a sweater that is too big, so this also goes for my back. I'm not sure whether they will cut there too, or if they can simply pull it all tighter. I tend to pinch myself when the skin folds, if I turn in bed or on the floor exercising.
Another thing is the pelvis area. I have a lot of loose skin here, which I hope they'll remove too.
And then, lowest priority, are my "batwings". They annoy me, but they can easier be beefed out working some muscle into them. Not that annoying.

When are they doing surgery?
Well, I got green light from the doctor. Now I need approval from the surgeons and specialists. This should not be an issue, I'd think. My doctor is confident that it's no issue either. I am waiting for a letter with an appointment date for this "pre-surgery" meeting. I don't know yet how long wait time there is for neither this or the surgery. We'll simply have to wait and see.

I'm really looking forward to knowing more. I hope it can be done before summer really hits, so I can take it a little easy over summer and slowly recover. Maybe after sick leave take a little vacation.

Yesterday I was in class all day - über nerdy computer system class. It was great, and fun, but oh, so dry. I don't like "all theory" classes, after a few hours my head is full! I did good though, and learned a ton of useful things, that I'm looking forward to teaching my coworkers.

Lunch was good, it was a pretty nice buffet with plenty of healthy options. I loved the quality of the food - super great! Actually, I was so full, that dinner wasn't an option. I simply didn't feel like it, and skipped it. It's the first time I have skipped dinner since I started my journey in October 2010!

The weigh-in result is definitely affected by this, and probably also some dehydration, as I woke up VERY thirsty this morning. I lost almost 2 kgs since yesterday. I am sure this is a fluke and that it won't stay off though. Then again, I'm not too worried about it. The goal of 77 kgs is mostly to get doctor's approval - and I got that now! :) I do still think it's a good pointer, though, to stay in the "normal" weight range, which is 77 kgs for me. Tomorrow I'll be back in the 78's again, I'm sure. It just shows how MUCH our weight can fluctuate because of smaller things, and how we need to learn to NOT panic when we gain a little now and then. We (or, at least, I) tend to get all giddy with big losses and all panicky with little gains. There is no need to. As long as we know in our hearts that we do well, and we generally see things going in the right direction, I believe we're doing just fine.

Today is theme day at work. The entire place is shutting down, to do a class together, far from home at a little resort. I'm so curious what they have in store for us. Of course, lunch is AGAIN gonna be a stress factor, but I am prepping well for it. I'm not gonna bring "backup lunch" though, as my breakfast and dinner are really low on calories. I should be able to handle pretty much anything they throw at me.

Today, I am thankful for:
- ALL YOU GUYS! I really appreciate all the wonderful comments yesterday. Thanks!
- A huge drop in weight today, bringing me back to where I really want to me, even if only for a day. :)
- Morning coffee.
- A good co-worker letting me tag along in his car going to the resort today.
- Kitty Cat being all snuggly.
- Daughter doing more awesome art!

Life is good!

The comment about the normal fluctuations both up and down are a great reminder. Telling oneself isn't always as impacting as when its heard externally too. Congrats on the dr approval - I'm sure once all is said and done with the surgery it'll make life so much more enjoyable to throw yourself into :)

I do hope you get that letter quickly.... And it then "speeds" through. Waiting will be a killer... And you are right - how lovely to be able to have it before summer. On hot days the "excess" must be really annoying. Have a good theme day - I look forward to hearing what it was on tomorrow :-)

Your words gave me encouragement because I always get so discouraged with the daily fluctuation that I forget to look at the bigger picture. Thanks Keld (and huge congrats on yesterday's news!) :-D

Awesome, and I appreciate the comments about fluctuations - I am still early on in this and start to freak when I check the scale and it didn't move, or (gasp)it goes up... Question - I see you log in your weight each day - do you find this more helpful as opposed with logging in weekly?
