mskestrela's Journal, 17 April 2017

Last week was a bit rough, work-wise, and consequently diet-wise. My appetite is still raging, meaning I seem to feel hungry all the time. Add to that being busy at work, and tired, all I could think of was getting food in me ASAP. Although, for the most part, I still only ate once a day, the choices were carby, which added to the hunger cycle. Saturday was the worst, and the scales reflect that today.
But, I've been at this long enough to know that 'this, too, shall pass', so I'm not going to beat myself up over it. And the really discouraging thing is that only one of the 'bad' meals was really worth it. *sigh* So yesterday, I was right on point with food, although I did eat twice. Still counts as IF, though, because I fasted from 2 PM Saturday to 11 AM Sunday, and ate dinner around 6 PM.
My pantry cleaning continues. Yesterday, I baked most of the morning (muffins and 2 kinds of cookies, from mixes), and gave the results to my non-cooking neighbors. They were thrilled, and the junk is out of my house.
I'm thinking I want to try to maintain my weight somewhere around 165 for a while. I'm not loving all the loose skin (wrinkles) I'm seeing! I reached down for something the other day, and the skin on my upper arms sort of pooled in a wrinkly mess. If I drop to my goal weight, it will only get worse. But, I still plan on being Keto, as the benefits are so good, other than weight loss.
Anyway, it's a new week, buddies..let's make the most of it! Meanwhile I'll leave you with this kitty paw teddy bear.

I think maintaining for a while is a great idea. It does give your body a chance to reconfigure. I have some loose skin in places too, quite a few places actually! But it's far healthier than having it padded out with all that fat, and I think maybe it will reduce over time? I've also been doing some toning exercises for arms. I don't think it's doing anything for the skin, but nice that I can see the muscles under the skin!

Kes, try this: Zint Beef Collagen Powder Grass-Fed Hydrolyzed Non-GMO Protein Supplement. I got it from Amazon and it's unflavored. You can mix it in your coffee, shake or add it to your cooking. Collagen restores elasticity in skin and strengthens hair and nails. :-)

Have a better week, my friend!

Agree with Heidij123. While I was losing I would stop and maintain. I did that about 2-3 times until I reached my goal weight. I have minimal loose skin and it gave my body a chance to "reconfigure" as Heidij stated......allowed my body to slowly adjust.

Ms. K -- This is a problem for me too. I'm living with some saggy-baggies on upper and lower arms as well as upper thighs. I'm fairly strong and active, so I'm not happy with the old lady look - especially on the neck and even face. This is a consequence of losing so much weight. I too am hoping that in time it will all tighten up. Meanwhile, I'm not wearing sleeveless anything and I've discovered board shorts to wear over my bathing suit. ACH! Bone broth has lots of collagen, and the fasting is supposed to help. I'm hoping that time is also a factor. I 'll pass on anything I learn, as I trust you will too.

Or you could lift heavy weights!

Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions, friends! @HCB, part of my problem is that I did lift heavy weights and rode horses competitively for many years, so I have always been bulked up. When the muscle turned to flab, I didn't really notice a difference. But now the fat is gone, as well as the muscle...and the enthusiasm for lifting. At this stage of my life, I'm not really looking to 'hook a hottie', and have reached the point where I really don't give a flip what others think of me...except professionally. To be honest, I see the loose skin as a victory badge, for taking charge of health risks.

Being stressed makes me feel as if I am hungry all of the time. Also I found that if I have enough protein and some healthy fat, then I feel less hungry. Good luck as you move toward your goal

If you're feeling so hungry all the time, wouldn't two (non-carby) meals a day be better?

Kes, I love your description of loose skin as a victory badge! I will wear mine with pride! Okay, well sometimes I will cover it up too.... Lol!

Erika, I'm afraid signs of aging are inevitable 😞 I look at my 65 year old hubby sometimes, who is incredibly fit and has never ever been even slightly overweight, and even he has some loose skin, in the same places. The thing is just to be the fittest, healthiest older person that you can be. Gotta say I am struggling with accepting this too! Oh, by the way, my hubby goes walking and climbing with an 80 year old who is just as fit!
