kingkeld's Journal, 30 January 2012

I have found a new demon, and I want him cast out! I register him as "creme puff", but it's really not correct. I use that one as Google Translate suggested it, and it fits with the calories per gram.

It's (I think) a Danish thing called "flødeboller". It's basically sugar and egg whites whipped up, then dipped in chocolate and put on a tiny wafer. It's the perfect sweet candy, it's severely addictive and oh so good. Sadly, I realized that they're not TOO bad on calories, and I remembered how much I like them.

Trouble is, I don't really want them back in my life, but I have a hard time resisting. I walk right by several stores that sell the super-deli versions of them, and they are calling my name every time. I really need to man up and just say no to these little devils. I can't believe that I'm actually willing to go into the store and pay high price for these little b**stards. LOL. I think this week's goal will have to simply NOT buy any.

It's been some days a little out of the usual for me. I'm glad to say I am back in the usual groove, and looking forward to staying there.

First, Wife's bad back gave her lots of trouble last Friday. She was hurting so bad I had to make her stay home from work. She wanted to go, but she couldn't even stand up. As much as I appreciate her wanting to do her job, she's gotta take care of herself first.

So I helped her doing a lot of stretching exercises (I went online to find the "safe" things for a back with a herniated disc, so we wouldn't hurt her more, but rather make her more flexible in order to minimize the pains), and getting her some pain killers.

Saturday, she was somewhat better. We had a great breakfast omelet a la The King, and we really not up for lunch, as we ate late. It was fine, though it was Indulgence Day. We had guests coming over, and Daughter was gonna cook. She has a dish called "Not your mother's chicken dumplings" that simply rocks. It's oh, so good, and pretty healthy at around 70 calories per 100 grams. Not bad. Trouble is, you eat a lot because it's so good, and it weighs you down HEAVY. This, of course, along with the other things I ate on Saturday's Indulgence Day made me gain a whopping 3 kgs (6 lbs)!!! Of course it's not a fat gain - I can only smile and say "Oh, well"... it'll come off again through the week.

Saturday night we had visitors. Two ladies from Brazil, who also live here in Denmark. They're friend's of Wife's, from when she went to language school to learn Denmark a few years back. Last time they were here was for Thanksgiving 2010. It was so much fun to see their reaction to the new Kingkeld, as they simply thought that Wife had changed hubby out for a new, younger, slimmer, and prettier model. LOL! It was amazing to see their reaction when it dawned on them that I was that same guy. Priceless!

Of course, they wanted to know the secret, and I gladly told them. I might have to help them a little on the way on this. We'll see if they're interested. They're coming over again this Saturday.

Sunday was another busy day, with a lot of fun. I went to the school where I teach music along with my old drummer from back when I was a teenager. He's a cool guy, and I am glad he's back in my life. We don't get to hang as much as we'd like because of all the other things we do in life, family, work, his kids and all that. However, we try to do it now and then. This time we had the perfect excuse. I bought a drum kit for the kids at the school, and we needed to assemble it and set it up - something he does WAY better than I.

So we agreed to up there yesterday, assemble it and then jam a little. I brought the mighty bass, and we spent about an hour after "work" having a little fun. It was awesome.

Of course, being out like that makes it a little more complicated to eat right, so I made sure to have a reasonable breakfast, and prepared my dinner intake in advance, so I knew what I had to work with. We neded up having pita breads with lettuce and grilled chicken. No dressing. Not at all a bad choice.

Last night we saw the new movie "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". It's a US remake of a Swedish TV movie/series, and it was actually pretty good. I REALLY like the original shows (if you can, check out the three extended movies - they're well worth it), but the remake was almost as good.

So, how am I doing on the scale now? Well, I am up 2.5 kgs since Saturday, down 500 grams since yesterday. That's just fine. I often gain for TWO days after Indulgence Day, so seeing the weight coming down is just fine.

It's a little frustrating, that my fat percentage is now so low that I can't measure it on my smart smart scale when I suddenly gain "non-fat" weight on Sundays (and Mondays). I simply get an "Out of bounds"-error, and it won't do anything but show my weight. I take it as a good sign, though, as it only happens when I KNOW that there is no fat gain. So I simply use it as an indicator that my weight is fine, but that I have a lot of food processing in my system. I can live with that.

This week, well Monday through Thursday, Wife is on vacation. She wanted a little time off, and it turns out that the timing is good. She doesn't want to have many sick days, and since her back is now aching she has a chance to recover. I have instructed her to do absolutely NOTHING that can potentially strain her back. We want her back in the game as soon as she can, but she needs to take care of herself first. So 4 days of vacation is very welcome right now.

Of course, this made me wonder what do to with my mornings. Should I sleep late? Should I get up as always? What should I do?

I settled on getting up at 4:30 am as always. First thing I did was my exercise DVD, which I'm afraid had slipped a little in the back ground. We've had a few busier-than-usual mornings, and that became the excuse for NOT doing it. However, I did it this morning, and I got a remind of how AWESOME I feel after doing it. I hope I can remember this tomorrow morning, so I will do it again.

So now it's 6:15 AM, I have worked out, showered, shaved, made/eaten breakfast, and I am here with my coffee and kitty cat resting in my lap. Does it get any better? I even still have and hour and thirty minutes before I need to go to work. I might go in early, though. Get a few things done, and maybe leave early.

I am going to the gym after work, and I plan on a 90 minute trek on the treadmill. I realized last time that I didn't tire much from it, especially not if I minimize the runs a little bit between the high pace walks. I never go less than 6 km/hr (something like 4 miles/hr) so it's a good constant move. There is always an incline, which varies a little. I'm not sure how much it really is, but it inclines in three levels, so it gets a little harder now and then. When the incline is the lowest, I pick up the pace a little. On the display of the treadmill you can see how many calories you burn per hour, and I never let it under 500. That's the goal. 90 minutes, 750+ calories burned.

It worked for me to watch a movie on Tabby last time. I think I'll do that again today. I have several lined up, so I can pick what I feel like at the time.

I have gotten the Xbox Kinect set up, and I got the Fitness Evolved game for it now. It's pretty good - it has a LOT of different workout stuff. However, I am not sure it'll replace my DVD. I see that if I do the game instead, I may be tempted to skip things that aren't as fun as others, unless I work out to set up a fixed training program. On the DVD you basically have to follow your trainer, on a game it's all interactive and you choose your workouts as you go. Also, this takes time away from actual exercise, and there will probably be breaks while the exercises load up. I'll have to look more into it. However, I think it'll be great for EXTRA work out time here at home, maybe on days where I can't hit the gym, or when you simply want to play around in a healthy fashion (Wow. Did I just write that? LOL).

Today I am thankful for
- Wife feeling better. She slept through the night with no significant pains.
- The ability to get up early even if wife is sleeping in.
- Realizing how great I feel after doing my exercise DVD.
- Toffee Cinnamon Coffee!
- Bachman&Turner rocking all their classics on TV right now. Not Fragile!

So all I need now is a nice, calm day at the office (which I think it will be) and I am all set. I hope you guys have an awesome day.

Wow, it felt good to write a long, dedicated journal today. I have missed it so much the last few days. Chaos have been a little too much in the foreground, and I can really tell how this journal helps me to keep my feel on the ground.

No more breaks on the Journaling! This is massive! lol. Glad to read your journey's adventures are like mine. I did enjoy the pastries when I was in Europe, so I can see the temptation there. Good luck on your working out, and hope the wife is feeling better. Back pain is no joke!

Good to hear how your week went and really glad to hear your wife is feeling better. I enjoyed the originals better myself and have The Girl that kicked (?) the Hornets nest left. However they did a pretty good job on the remake as well. Those pasteries do look good. And they are the perfect size to have just one more....lol. Good luck on that.

Good call on the aversion of trigger foods. If you can't get a particular bit of something outta your head its best to just not for a while and see if you can deal better next time. Even if its yummy, on plan, and workable :) *so talking to myself here and thinking about the big bowl of chocolate fudge pudding sitting in my fridge* Glad you got your day started right and are getting back into your routine. Enjoy your day!

chocokate marshmallow is a great translation. Wonder if I can find it in the food list? Let me go check!
30 Jan 12 by member: kingkeld
Yup! Chocolate coated marshmallow IS there, 421 cals per 100 gram. The package of the ones I like says 400 cals per 100 grams, so I think this is a good match, and a little more correct. Thanks for the inspiration, Joelae. Then again, I really won't need this info, as I am casting them away right? LOL.

How fantastic, that the ladies from Brazil, didn't recognise you. It must have been an amazing feeling, watching their reaction. I love it, when I meet someone and they look at you long and hard, then say "OMG, Pam.. How are you, you look fantastic". Of course they are too polite to mention I have lost loads of weight - they just say retirement suits me LOL. On you Xbox game - doesn't it have the facility, to set up a "group" of exercises? ... I know what you mean about doing the "fun" ones otherwise. Mind you.... It would be great fun for you and your wife to use it as a leisure game in the evening - to see who can get the best score or whatever it does. Gets you both off your butt instead of watching telly :-). Have a great day. :-)

here in holland we used to call those "negerzoenen", roughly translated as negro-kisses. But in the 90-ties they though it unappropriate, and renamed them. First the company that made them made them out of white chocolate and called them "witte zoenen" "white kisses", but the anti-racism-organisation didn't agree that was a good solution. Now they are called choco-kisses: "chocozoenen". congrats on your almost-there-weight a few days ago. do you have a maintainance plan ready? you, with your scientific approach, i would really value your input on that! eventhough i'm not even halfway there, it is an important thing to strive for. greetz maud.

ps: sleeping in late, is like eating to much of the wrong thing: it is delightfull when you are doing it, but in the long run you will considder sleeping a waste of time and would have had more profit from getting up and doing stuff...

he he! Kingjkeld & puhpine, your comments on that lovely sweet make me laugh: where I grew up (Belgium and France), they used to call them têtes de nègre (negro-heads) or pèts de nonnes (nuns' farts), then the PC kicked in: the name negro-heads vanished, but nuns' farts stayed...don't ask how it all rates on the PC' ladder; for me as log at they keep making them!!! Yummyyy!!!!

I must come clean, I ate several servings of caramel candy corn this weekend too! They are essentially pure sugar, mixed with even purer sugar! They were yummy!
30 Jan 12 by member: posterchild66
LOL .... Nun farts! I love that one. That's a permanent new name in my house hold, I think. :)
30 Jan 12 by member: kingkeld
Maybe if you call them nun farts you will be less likely to buy/eat them?!? Haha.. I loved reading about your wife's friends that didn't even recognize you!! That's hilarious! What a great affirmation for how far you've come on your journey! Hope you enjoy your 90 minutes on the treadmill (if you haven't already - I can never remember what our time difference is!!)

Keld, your wife is a lucky woman to be able to be married and have an affair at the same time . . . guilt free! I would love to have seen the look on the ladies faces. I've never had a nuns' fart, but I sure would like to try one. LOL! Have a great day!!!

This looks like a meringue on top of a cookie. Those meringues are easy to make and not high in calories. Addicting even by themselves. You can evenbuy them in the US for cheap.

After gastric bypass - and aprox 18 months... I didn't recognize my own brother in law! LITERALLY. I thought my sister in law had brought someone from her job (she's a fireman) to Thanksgiving Dinner! Nope.. it was my BIL! Shocking what a change someone losing 200lbs can create! And with not seeing him at all during the process... didn't even look like the man I once knew. :) Glad you had a good weekend, and lifting prayers and well wishes to Wife to feel better, all better, very soon!!!! Much Love.

oh, and thanks to the term 'nun farts'... I will never look at chocolate and marshmallow the same way EVER AGAIN! LOL!!!
