I wanted to give y'all a heads-up on soup bones. As bone broth has become all the rage, soup bones have gotten pretty pricey. On my last trip to Walmart, they had awesome packs of 12 marrow bones for just over $3 a pack! I bought 2 packs (no, NOT Tupac...), and roasted them off, and now they're in the stockpot with carrots, onions and celery. I was pretty tempted to scoop out the marrow before putting them in the pot, but I want that flavor and fat in the broth. I LOVE bone marrow, but it's best spread on a crunchy baguette, so...NOPE!
I decided to make cauliflower with a creamy cheese sauce for the video. I found the cutest mini bars of Velveeta, so it should be great for the scale. I'll post the link when it's up.

OMG, that cauliflower was SO good! I've started using Coleman's mustard powder in cooking, and that stuff is AMAZING! It adds a really deep dimension of flavor to anything it touches. Video will post tomorrow!

I keep wanting to make bone broth, but I think I want to find bones from organic, grass fed cows, on the presumption the cows are healthier. I have yet to find any at the big box stores, so I thought I'd try an actual butcher shop next.

Everyone talks about how much better the grass fed steaks and even Kerrygold butter is, so I would assume the bone broth from those would taste that much better too. Have you tried and noticed any differences?

@ehead, no, I haven't been able to find any locally. IMHO, grass fed beef isn't all that much better, as it tends to be leaner and tougher.

ehead, you need to find a farmer in your state to find grassfed beef and pork. You can find ground meat and a few steaks in the grocery stores, but you need to find someone local if you want anything more than that. We live in Minnesota, and we are grateful for our farmer who raises his cattle on organic pasture. We buy quarters from him. We have a few sources for pork right now, and just packed away a half hog this weekend. I found our sources using Google and hubby found some things on Craigslist. Oddly, the hardest thing to find is organic chicken, because the restaurants snatch them up in bulk. We have to settle for the occasional whole bird at Whole Foods, or wait until Thanksgiving for the frozen organic turkeys.

Mom went to our local Whole Foods Market tonight and found the pasture raised bones in their freezer area, so we're going to start our bone broth tonight! :-)
