jsfantome's Journal, 22 January 2012

Weight this morning is holding steady from yesterday, still at 147. Had a wonderful day yesterday - all healthy choices food wise, got in some light activity playing in the snow w/ the dogs, and my hubby, while he tended to the winter burn pile all day. (we live in a rather rural setting and can burn the brush, stick, christmas trees etc from our yard, a couple of times a year.)

Today I will be heading out to church, and hopefully, this afternoon I will make it over to the gym. Those are my two items on my TO DO LIST today!

I have a bunch of reading to finish for my Tues Night Class.. and outside of that.. life is quiet around the homefront!

Hope you all have a wonderful day. Count your blessings.. and give thanks! Life is more valuable when you get up and go live it!!!

Good luck with your reading, ready for your Tuesday class..... Don't give them too much info to start with... It is a big temptation, to "throw everything" at them, when you first start a class..... Leave something for other weeks. Better to go in depth about a couple of concepts/ideas and give them time to evaluate and take the in. Remember, you have Taken months to acquire and assimilate the information... They have only just begun the process....They will thank you for it in the end. :-)

Di - it was fun, lots of fun! And Skinny this will be week 3 ... and so far they are all seeming to appreciate the pace. Not too much, but not too little - each week we review, we learn something new, we question, we give answers, we pray together, we do an activity together, - we go over a checklist of reminders, then we call it quits. I have sent them individual reading assignments 3x's a week - and we review those at the start of class. It's going quite well, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Many of them say they are LOVING it!!! So that is encouraging. One lady said she just wasn't ready to honestly make any commitments to 'change' anything... but she needed the night out of the house to wrap her mind around when she 'might' be ready. Told her if she is willing to come, I am willing to have her there! So far she's lost two pounds ;) and she ain't even trying! LOL! (God is really funny sometimes!)

What kind of class are you teaching? Playing in the snow sounds wonderful. I dream of being 147 some day. I need to get a perimeter to count my steps. I am going walking shortly. Sounds like you have a wonderful week ahead. Have a great time in class.

LOL.... Love that Jsfantome - a night out of the house and she has lost 2 pounds! Well done... What you are doing sounds great... Re-enforcing, variety and reviewing :-). You must have got the pace just right....Must also be working sublimely for her to loose 2 pounds, without, as she thinks, trying.

That is great, 2lbs lol without trying, you are obviously doing a great job......but she will probably be the one to really do this in the end. Update us with how it is going for everyone. I would love to start a class like that as it makes you go over things it is so easy to forget as we go along. Plus you have to do it for them....well done.

I only have one man in the class... and about 11 women. So 12 - plus me... they all call the class 'the baker's dozen!'. LOL! They're a fun group! So the man, is the first one to dive right in... "I think I am addicted to food.. and since I can't really stop eating and be healthy.. I need help!" Well - that opened a FLOODGATE of individual stories, and people's interests were hooked! They all want it.. like we do here. They have all chosen their own plans they wish to follow. And they brought with them an outline to the first class of what that is, how to follow it, etc... and we went over some basics of Tracking, Journaling, Reaching out for online Support, Water, Etc. It's kind of progressed from there to talk about Calories, Quality of Calories, Macro Nutrients (fats, proteins, and carbs) etc... (I am probably missing a few things...) but that about covers the first two weeks. They have stuff they are accountable to do daily... and a couple of times a week, and they have to bring this info back to class with them. Starting this week... they will be breaking out into little groups and taking turns teaching about the NEW THING they learned this week. Plus, near the end of the class during the first two weeks, we end by taking turns praying over each other's success for the upcoming week. We will be adding in a couple of special guests, and a viewing of FATHEAD (because I highly recommend that movie if you haven't watched it.) Taking personal responsibility to LEARN, is one of the keys to LIVING it down the road! (imho).
