LadyinDenim's Journal, 16 October 2016

Well, I baked a cake for a little boy who turned three. I did eat the leftover frosting and cake batter. I also ate the leftover cake crumbs. I figured it was enough to count as a cupcake, so that's how I logged it.

Anyway, my plan going forward is as follows:

LCHF diet with 60 Gm max protein. Log all of my food. Keep calories under maintenance. Add in some type of exercise daily and post it in the day's journal.

I am grateful that I engaged in the fs community. Because of fs, I was exposed to new ideas and learned new ways to address the problem of obesity.

Oh dear... I just love cake batter. At least you've admitted it. I've just licked the double cream with grated chocolate dish left from the Sherry trifle. Happy days

It's hard to work with sugar! Nice of you, though to make the cake. You'll recoup soon. No big deal. :)

I should never bake alone, I should always enlist my 6 and 7 year old helpers. They would have saved me! LOL

18 1/2 lbs by the end of November?! That's quite a goal! ...... but possible. I'll do my best to pace you! That would make up for my momentum lost during the pneumonia and put me into Onederland. Nice goal!

Sounds like a good plan....now all you have to do is stick to it. ;)

OH, Lady - the dreaded " licking the mixing bowl" thing! We loved doing it as kids and we're just bigger kids now. I'm pretty rigorous about doing 150 mins weekly of cardio (Zumba, Jazz Dance, NIA), daily yoga for flexibility and keeping a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. It's not that this really helps with weight loss, but more about it just being part of a healthy lifestyle. Pop a pedometer on during a work day and see how many steps a busy nurse logs. You'll be amazed! Then try to keep the same number of steps on non-working days. I think that daily physical activity clears the mind, brightens your mood - and it's time away from food and all its temptations. It's just one more thing to add to your "healthy living" list.

I'm sure I would have done the same. Have you ever tried "cake batter ice cream" from Cold Stone Creamery? Well, that's my favorite flavor, and why I would have licked the bowl clean :)

Hey ladies - did you know that social support networks in online communities has a net positive effect on weight loss? Well, yes it does. Let's not allow those negative posters to shut down our positive discussion. Take a read at this link http://www.livescience.com/49602-online-social-support-lose-weight.html. Our Denim has it just right about the importance of positive social connections (both on line and in person) to reinforcing changed behaviour. It's just one component of healthy lifestyle in the 21st century.

The researchers found the most significant factor linked to weight loss was a person's level of social networking. After six months, people who did not have any friends in the online community saw a 4.1 percent decrease in their body weight, on average. On the other hand, those in clusters made up of two to nine friends experienced a 5.2 percent decrease in body weight. The people who were in the largest cluster of friends within the network, which was made up of nearly 1,500 members, saw a 6.8 percent decrease in body weight. Those who were deeply embedded in the social network — who not only had a high number of friends, but also whose friends each also had a high number of friends — experienced a 8.3 percent decrease in body weight. "It makes sense that social connectedness is related to any goal people try to achieve," said lead study author Julia Poncela-Casasnovas, who researches social systems using computational methods at Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona, Spain. "It can be AA [Alcoholics Anonymous], or just joining a gym with friends, or quitting smoking. Any of these behavior-modifying endeavors are more likely to succeed if you have some kind of social support."

Lady - hang in there - celebrate your accomplishments! Having kids around while baking is brilliant - they always want to lick the bowl!

Great research, Shazzy, and a good idea about the pedometer. I will try that.

Lady lady lady, I'm on day 7. How are you going to be down if you keep re-setting the thermometer. Your honesty is remarkable but... frosting... REALY. and although the kid idea is great, the little 3 year old one just says, " Do it again gramma." I remind you again about jimmypoop # grindtime. Remember, commitment..... 😍

Just doing what we agreed to...my day of need is coming up before next Saturday. just joking around here. Please don't delete me, but if you must, please tell me to back off first.

Mrs. Maths, I deleted garlicknot's comments and the rebuttals to his comments. He is a user well known for being banned due to abusive comments. He keeps coming back under new usernames. He is nice to newcomers, but after awhile, he shows his nasty side.

Sarah, the frosting was definitely off plan. I am telling myself that if I am not on track to 18.5 lb, I'll just fast.
