Sandy701's Journal, 14 November 2011

Walked 3.2 miles this morning; 2.5 with both doggies. Snowbirds are back so while it's nice to see them again, it means 1 street is pretty much out of our walking routine now, as they have a really big dog that's often off-leash. The dog is under voice control......mostly.......usually......so we don't chance that street unless the coast is clear!!

Weather today is back to late spring...sunny, warm (70's) and VERY humid! Yesterday, I was wearing sweater and vest and long pants. Today it's shorts and t-shirt. Makes for a pretty large pile of half-worn clothes - LOL!!

Anyway, I'm filling up the OCC boxes - deadline is Sunday! I added a couple more boxes, as it seems I'd picked up a few more toy items than I thought I had done over this past year. It always seems to go like that because I pick them up throughout the year whenever I see something that's exceptionally priced. But because I've added more boxes, I now need some more of the necessities.....school supplies and hygiene items....so back out shopping I go.

The end of this week will be busy as I'll be working on a committee getting Thanksgiving baskets ready for families in need. The distribution of same will be Saturday morning. As soon as that's done, we'll be setting up the Angel Tree so it's ready for Saturday and Sunday services.

We all took home paper angels to cut out for the tree and, I gotta tell you.....it was a lot more work than I thought! In and out and in and out with the scissors, changing the printed date on the angel (due to a printing error), punching holes for hanging ribbons, cutting ribbons, and attaching them. Sheesh! I thought I was back in grade school....and it took HOURS!!! Good thing I didn't wait until the last few days to do that! In previous churches, they've had various Sunday School classes help out with this project and that might not be a bad idea!

Had to send an email to FS....can't log out!!! For me, that's not too big a deal but it means DH can't log in!

Morning, er, afternoon, Sandy...it is much like spring here in Missouri also!! I am working on my OCC boxes also. They are due a week from Sunday. I love the OCC project! We average one box per person at our church, which is really awesome. Hope you have a great week, and thanks for all you do for those in need...you are touching so many lives.

Good morning Sandy (at least it is here!). I would like to place my order for some of that spring like weather PLEASE. We had our first snow over the weekend. Most of it is melted but there are side streets that are not and they have reported people sliding off and turning over. Wind is blowing hard here today and supposed to snow again this evening...means I will not be sleeping worried about my daughter driving to work (she works night shift). We are gearing up for our Christmas here. I need to get some shopping done for some gift items for the kiddies to go shopping for their parents at the hope center. Getting ready for angel tree to come up. Working on a "Keep Christ in Christmas" for the parish in early December. Maybe if we all stay busy enough we won't have time to think of the goodies. But then again I do plan on doing some baking and shipping those to family in Georgia and for my DH to take into his office.

Glad you know which streets to watch out for! Hopefully your technical issues are resolved quickly, nothing crankier at my house than a frustrated surfer! Sheesh & Golly Gee & all that....with that said, you better get back to cutting, my hands are hurting for you...ouch! Such attention to detail is required or you will be cutting off parts that are better left on! So good of you to help with such a worthwhile project!

Stef, one box per person is an awesome result and shows a lot of commitment and sacrifice from each of those members! I'd say our numbers come up to not even half a normal Sunday's attendance (all services)... not even close to 1 per member. But we'll keep working on it!! Enjoy your little bit of leftover summer!

Buffy, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. No response as yet, although I wouldn't necessarily expect one just yet. Mostly, I just keep trying to log off from time to time and still no such luck. Guess everybody's stuck with me - LOL!

Jaime, sounds like you're busy with special events already, too. Last time I was in a bad snowstorm, my sister's vehicle was a few ahead of me and an accident happened right in front of her! In the blinding snow, I thought she might have been involved, but luckily not. Still, it's dificult for even the best of drivers to handle slick and icy roads. If your daughter goes nice, slow, and easy, she'll do just fine (but like a good mom, I know you'll still worry).

GG, a few longer-term committee members talked about doing some of the angels each day and I followed their advice. Glad I did, as my hands DID get sore using the scissors so much. How did I survive kindergarten???!!

Wow Sandy, you have been a busy bee for sure..I don't blame you for not using that street..hate to have your dogs hurt by another one..I used to help with stuff like that and it really is time consuming..Enjoy your nice weather as it will be getting cold soon enough...hope you can get off so DH can get on..have a great evening...☺

Sandy sorry you can't walk on 1 street because of snowbirds being back. As a winter visitor in Arizona, I try to always remember that I am a visitor in this beautiful place and respect others.
