things are coming along fine - i have done alot of soul searching and because of my living situation i am going to have to put doing atkins of until next semester - well the begining of the year. I live in a dorm and had to opt for a meal plan 1400 dollars because im only a sophmore its required and they dont have enough atkins friendly food and because of the amount i dont have money to allocate to grocerys so im still only using diet sodas no caffiene no sugar or salt and im still walking 4 days a week but as far as actually DOING atkins im gonna have to put it off. i will be a junior next semester and wont have to have a meal plan.

Come on sweety...cut the diet sodas and drink water. Eat meat and salads, vegies. You can still eat 80% Atkins, Just because you pay for foods does not mean you have to eat it all. I smell an excuse!!! You can do this.....

Dayna, You can do this! I lived in a dorm and they have many choices. If you can't work Atkins work something. Try calorie count, and I've been talking to one of our buddies and maybe you should try Leptin. 3 meals, high protein breakfast and low carbs. I have faith in you, but you must have faith in yourself. Find what works for you and your situation, everyone has to make adjustments. Love ya!

I've been where you are before and what the issue REALLY is: you are relying on WILLPOWER to keep you from overeating or sticking to the low-carb lifestyle when faced with so many choices. Honesty, Butterfly, I will tell you, there are low carb choices in every cafeteria BUT, I do know that it is hard to see them AND enjoy them when there are so many others... in the beginning. My #1 tip for the low-carb lifestyle is this: plan in your mind to stick to the induction phase of Akins for at least 3 days. I promise you'll only have to rely on your willpower for that long. Once you are in ketosis, your appetite will be naturally suppressed and any overeating is, well, a mind trick. As I said, I was where you are and it also helped me a GREAT deal to actually get into the habit of looking up the carb count of the very foods I enjoy. You'll be surprised to find that some of your very favorite foods are or can be low-carb with little to no changes in preparation. Dana Carpenter's book, HOW I GAVE UP LOW FAT AND LOST 40 POUNDS is an EXCELLENT introduction to the low-carb lifestyle. She also has a cookbook that is equally awesome. They both really really helped me with any stray cravings and how to adjust recipes to satiate them. Please check her out. As time goes on you will get better at "feeling" your body and what works best for it. Honestly, that is the #1 reason why I returned to the low-carb lifestyle. I hope this was helpful, Butterfly and again, it will come... ALWAYS get back up. ;)
