Good Morning, FS Warriors! It's a dreary and cool day here in Central Illinois. I am hoping that the sun comes out and it does not rain again. I've got most of my mowing done, but I still have some work to do outside at the church.

I made my first breakfast smoothie from scratch this morning - a Strawberry-Oatmeal smoothie. It wasn't bad. I don't know if it is any healthier than what I normally eat, but it was probably more. The recipe was for two servings, but of course I drank it all. Here is the recipe if anyone is interested:

1 cup of soy milk
1/2 cup of rolled oats
14 frozen strawberries
1 banana broken into chunks
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar

I didn't have soy milk; I had non-fat milk. Why 14 frozen strawberries, and not 13 or 15, I have no idea. I had pretty small ones that the neighbor grew. If I put 14 strawberries in it, like the ones that DW picks up at the grocery store, they probably wouldn't fit in the blender. I didn't have any bananas, so I didn't use any. Found a container of Old Fashioned Oats in the pantry; I guess they are the same as rolled oats. DW had a bottle of vanilla flavoring in the cabinet; I guess it's the same as vanilla extract. In any case, it tasted pretty good, filled me up and I am ready to meet whatever the day brings.

BTW, I got this recipe from KitchMe.com; one of my friends had posted it on Facebook. Tomorrow I go to a Nazarene convention all day, so I need to get cracking and get some work done. Here's hoping everyone has a great day. Toodles!

Hmmm, vanilla protein powder. Can you get that at Walmart?

You guys have been warned. Stay away from soy products. Including Soy Isolate. ESPECIALLY soy Isolate.

DairyKing I LOVE smoothies ;-) If you should decide to try one with bananas, try cutting the peeled banana into chunks and freezing the night before. Throw the frozen chunks in with the frozen berries. The banana really ups the creamyness! Also, if your wife will be partaking in the future, she may want to check with her Dr. re: any contra-indications for soy products. And yes, you can get vanilla protein powder at most walmarts - lots of flavors actually!

Thanks, Vickie. Good idea on freezing the banana. We don't do the soy thing anyway. We're not big on dairy products either. I actually mix up powdered non-fat milk the night before when I know I'm going to make a smoothie or eating cereal.
