I guess I had a few pounds of water. Not surprised. My husband and I went and saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and we had popcorn. It was super salty. A friend at the gym suggested changing weigh ins from Monday to Wednesday. I'll give it a try.

It happens to me, too. Plus if you drink s Coke, that's even more salt. Always makes me super thirsty and I drink a ton of water.

It's not just the Salt, its the Carbohydrates. Each gram of Carbohydrates requires 3gms of water to store it. Movie Theater Popcorn will have around 60gms of Carbs, then add in the monster Coke, and you're well over 100gms just for that one sitting. So if you eat Carbs on the weekend, expect a higher weight amount on Monday....then a drop come Wednesday.

Calories in calories out stepping on the scale is always going to show what it's going to show I think the most important thing is that you do it approximately the same time I weigh in every morning around 7:15 but even then its not consistent the scale is only telling you how many atoms are being affected by gravity

Calories in Calories out is flawed....it doesn't work even in a lab setting, it's no wonder people struggle, even when sticking to "exactly" how many calories they've calculated/

Yes, I had a little popcorn at Star Wars, too!

I remember reading that at one point they were considering lowering the calories provided by protein because it takes so much energy to use protein. On another note, 1/10 gallon of jet fuel provides 3.4 million calories. I'd recommend not drinking it.

My husband said the reason the popcorn is salty is so we will have to buy cokes, but I bought a bottle of water instead. Haven't had a coke in a year and a half. And I think I'll stay away from jet fuel. Y'all have a Merry Christmas!

@northernmusician. Counting calories is in direct contrast with the laws of physics. The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics "Entropy" essentially states that to make energy available to be used for energy, energy must be lost. In other words, when you eat 100 calories of protein, to make that energy available to the body, some if it is converted to heat in processing. For Protein 25-30% lost, Carbohydrates 6-8%, and for Fat 2-3%. When you take into account the many various combinations of Carbs/Protein/Fat that you can have in a diet plan, attempting to count to an exact number is rather silly....and you haven't even taken into account the quality of gut microbes and bacteria to ensure you can actually absorb and use the nutrients....

I agree. In fact, I think that most of us eat about the same 20 meals over the course of a month. We have what we like. It's about knowing how much of those meals keep you where you want to be. Also, how do you count calories with something like beef. Grain fed will have way less (usually) fat content than something that was fattened with grain. 'My guess would be that when we count calories we're always off by 5-20% of actual. I think counting serves the purpose of getting us into the ballpark.

I think this is why "we" as a community, lose people....they start calorie counting and use it as an absolute instead of a ballpark guide, and when it doesn't work exactly as they think it should, they quit... :-(
