Hermiones Mom's Journal, 30 November 2015

So I'll come clean: I ate a candy bar today. This is an extremely unusual occurrence because candy bars are a FODMAP minefield, and my system is already in reboot from Thanksgiving. But I was at the Whole Foods today looking at the dark chocolate bars on sale -- I eat about 1 sq of dark chocolate ever other day -- and I saw these Amy's candy bars and read the ingredients, and there was nothing in them to give me indigestion and they weren't that high in calories, so I splurged and bought one. It was delicious. I'm not likely to do it again any time soon, but you know -- I really miss not being able to splurge even once a week on a chocolatey thing because everything gives me indigestion. Anyway, with oatmeal for breakfast, fish for lunch, and turkey planned for dinner, my calorie count is actually under control. Will do better tomorrow.

Yes, you do get to splurge sometimes and it will be a learn9ing experience to see how your stomach handles it - maybe it will be all good!

HCB -- I hope so. Because this Amy's organic candy bar only had about 5 ingredients, and they were all "real" -- sugar, butter, cocoa -- no chemicals, no preservatives, just real stuff. So it should be OK. We'll see.

The fastest way to fail any diet is to deprive yourself of everything you love to eat. Everything in moderation will get the job done.

you did nothing wrong….a little indulgence once a week is good to boost metabolism as long as you are eating 4 to 5 small meals a day

kpars123 -- Thanks for the reinforcement. My problem is I have no choice but to deny myself most things, because if I accidentally eat something non-FODMAP-safe, my IBS goes out of control. So the Amy's organic candy bar was a real find since it doesn't appear to have anything in it that likely to send my insides into an uproar. We'll see.
