heidij123's Journal, 17 September 2015

Back after 5 days away, a little bit gained, undoubtedly mostly water weight, not worried about it, will be gone in a few days. We were mostly self-catering, but ate out a couple of times. I also enjoyed indulging in a few chocolate biscuits, two large pieces of carrot cake, some different beers, and a cider called Dragons Tears! Ate reasonably yesterday, and recorded it. Going to do a fast day today I think, unless I get too ravenous. Also going to pick up my bicycle, which went in for a service while we were away.

It was a good trip, apart from the fact that I didn't get a good night's sleep the whole time we were away. Enjoyed waking up feeling refreshed this morning after a night at home. Don't know why I couldn't sleep while we were away, it isn't usually a problem. The camper van is as much 'home' as anywhere else is.

So, we went to a folk festival in Swanage, and saw some very good performers, and quite a mix, even a klezmer band. The stars of the Saturday night show were the Young 'Uns, Chris Leslie, and Braebach, all very good, and my favourites on Sunday were Hicks and Gilbourn, a superb singer and a superb guitarist doing a nice range of songs.

Then to Dawlish to visit a friend who has recently moved there. Lovely area of Devon, terrible mobile phone reception! All the hills get in the way of signals. Did a nice walk up the estuary to a pub that did great food. I had a bacon, mature cheddar and mushroom toasted sandwich, which tested even better than it sounds 😀 And the Dragons Tears. We also had a walk around Teignmouth, a fishing town that feels like it must have been a smugglers haunt in the past.

Didn't do a lot of exercise while away, and knees got a bit painful. Some of the campsite toilets are rather low so that children can use them, but it's not good for the old folk! Looking forward to a bike ride later 😀

Only about three more weeks in England now, and then we will be off to Spain.

Thanks all! Was fun, and good to be back 😀 This probably sounds weird, but I am enjoying fasting today. Walked down to the town centre, bought some smaller clothes, hee hee, and retrieved my bicycle 😀

Sounds like you had a great time, Heidi. I never slept terribly well in the caravan until we bought this one which has a fixed bed, and so a proper mattress, rather than the seating cushions. Though years ago I would sleep on a thin camping mat on the ground in a tent....I put it down to my age and preference for my creature comforts now.

I sleep in a nice bed with a good mattress at my DD's and still love coming home to my own. I think your body gets used to one and doesn't appreciate another.

Pleased to hear that you had a good trip. Enjoy riding your bike! Dragons tears sounds tasty - better than the ale called muddy boots I once had in the New forest :)

What's a few pounds when you go away, back to grim reality huh. It will soon go.
