I need a plan! How am I going to be successful and make progress when I don't have a plan???? I don't know what I'm doing any more but I'm getting fatter and fatter, so I have to do something....... I was doing reasonably well but it wasn't a good long term plan for me. I am getting discouraged and I lose my motivation when I don't make any progress. How do i get back into this? And what should I do?

Type this out in big letters, print it and post it where you will see it: "If I quit now, I'll soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I so desperately wanted to be where I am now." I have this posted in three places in my house to remind me of what I'm working toward. We all take steps backwards. Just don't look back...keep looking forward and you CAN do it!!!! Good luck -- we are here for you! :)

If you need a plan, go to Atkins.com - this is a plan for a life changing way of eating. Some of us are carb intolerent, so we need a plan that all but eliminates them from our diet.

The best plan is to eat sensibly and no junk or processed foods. I think these are the foods that play with your brain chemistry and make you want to have more. I've finally turned to the Doctor's Diet, which doesn't eliminate any food groups, but gives you specifics as to when to eat and what. (portion size and type of food, ei protein etc). In the past, I've been eating healthy things but my portions were too big and so was my consumption of fruit. I think Atkins done the right way is a good plan, just don't overdue the low carb and high fat. It's easy to get sucked into overdoing the fat and no sugar because the weight loss is rapid enough. But in my case, it wasn't sustainable. Try Weight Watchers! That's always moderate and proven to be effective. Or best yet, go and see a Nutritionist. But whatever plan, I'm convinced, if you still eat too much junk or too much processed, no plan will work. You'll always have cravings. The three successful members here that come to mind are Wholefoods and Deb and Snez who've lost and are maintaining. They're pretty much adopted a sensible approach. And there's no arguing with success. But I know how you feel, finding a good plan is a Must and probably the hardest part.

Lots of good advice already given and I don't know that I can really add anything. Other than consider what your previous plan was, what worked on it and why did it work, and what about it is unsustainable? How can it be modified to be something you can continue to so and still provide results? Those are questions that really only you can answer. Long term success means changing lifestyle, not easy to do but worth every bit of effort...in the long run we feel better about ourselves and our lives when we're living healthier. A plan can be developed over time, start with one thing and build from there. You can do this!

Amen to all of the above....when you decide that you are ready, you will find the plan that fits you and then slowly immerse you and your thoughts in the success that you hope to gain. All of us struggle with motivation and persistence from time to time but as Cindy says, "With Christ all things are possible." We all need help from time to time and there are so many wonderful friends on this site to provide not only tips, hints, strategies but also, support. You can do this....

When I used to fall off my diet plan/healthy lifestyle. I used to read my favorite diet book aka Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint. I would reread most of it until I was reminded of why I started paleo and a healthy lifestyle in the first place. It remotivates me. Try to read some healthy articles that are based on your particular diet needs or goals.

Tulipgirl6, we are all on this mountain side with you. Some of us are ahead of you & some of us are behind you. Those up ahead are going to pull on their chain; while those of us below are going to push you up. Read the names on this post. These are the links in your chain coming to your aid. We can do this. You can do this. Even I can do this. We are leaving no one behind. The plan options available are numerous, what works for one; may not work for another. So just dig in & keep digging till you find what works for you. Be tenacious. Stand your ground till this stall ends. In the mean time, know this. You can not quit. You have come too far. You are within view of the peak. We need you on that peak. We want you on that peak. You reaching that peak will inspire the climber below you to keep going. And when you're at the top, your experience will be of vital importance to us still making the climb. You will know where to throw your chain to help the next person in need. You will know the impact of receiving such a helping hand, & will be skilled at reciprocating the same deed to others. If it seems you are in this alone Tulipgirl6, it only seems that way. We are here. Don't just read these comments; listen to the voices. Feel the compassion of this community. Allow this merry band of climbers of mountains to heal your psyche & help fight back your demons. We will be your strength until you are strong again. We will be your light, till the darkness subsides. And when this terrible stall is over, you will be the stronger for it. Steep mountains make strong climbers. Weak people cannot make this journey. Weak people cannot ask for help. You have proven yourself to not be weak. So, you have got to keep going because I may need you to throw me your chain someday. And when that helping chain comes my way, I will be comforted by knowing a strong, triumphant Tulipgirl6 threw it from the peak; & she knows the path up this mountain because she has already conquered it.

I had issues where I leveled out in the loss area and actually had days and weeks where it seemed like I was doing the right things but not seeing the weight loss. I was gaining instead. Try to adjust your daily schedule so it's workable for you. That includes intake and exercise. And make it where if you miss a day or two it won't hurt you and you can easily get back into it.

Well I see encouragement abounds and all this is great advice. You just have to pick a plan and work it. In order not to lose lean muscle mass consider eating 1500 calories a day and not eating processed food or anything that begins with a "C" (that's kinda a joke but not really). You will be ready when you're ready and from personal experience there is nothing anyone can say to motivate anyone, dig deep Tulip... Take care

I started back up that mountain with little plan except that I knew I had had success in the past when I logged my food. From that starting point, I have been able to get control of my eating, slowing whittling away at those bad habits I developed over a lifetime. My plan developed over time and is tailored to the way I live. My attitude has changed this time and that is important. Looking at this as aiming for a healthier lifestyle rather than just losing some extra weight has made a huge difference for me. Best of luck to you!
