Sandy701's Journal, 10 June 2011

I'm beat. My poor leg muscles are saying, "Why are you abusing us? What have we done to deserve this? We've only held you up and given you locomotion for your entire life and THIS is how we're treated??" LOL!

For whatever reason, my legs are tired, and they've been getting progressively more tired over the last few days. I didn't even work them that hard yesterday (on my first trip to the gym in many, many years), esp. considering I've been walking regularly for the last year plus. I would have expected my arms to be sore or tired, but I feel nothing unusual there.

So, perhaps a day of rest is in order, although I'll probably tackle the lawn tomorrow - which is still walking. Today, I walked 3.3 miles, 1.5 with dogs; 84 and mostly cloudy when I started and 87 when I finished. At least there was very little direct sun and the breeze was fairly constant.

I missed my ambitious goal of 165 by Memorial Day but still have a chance to make it by next Wednesday, which is my "moderate" plan goal. But DH passed his PT test today (hooray!!!) and has been talking about a celebration dinner for weeks. We're still talking about that today. We also have a wedding anniversary coming up and so we're talking food for that, as well. And....there's another work-related dinner coming up at the end of the month.

I'm thinking of just staying on plan for all these events. That work-related dinner is at a restaurant (can't remember which one, right now) where I seem to remember thinking it was going to be a bit more difficult to find something appropriate. But, let's face it, you can almost ALWAYS get a salad with grilled chicken or beef, or shrimp on it.

I know that I can handle going off plan for an event - IF I want to. But I don't want to jeopardize going down that extra pound, esp. if I can do it by next week.

And, this month will have had 4 dinners/events to potentially go off plan, which is not a good thing for me. It becomes too easy to just keep finding this event, that dinner, this special occasion, that celebration, etc. as excuses to eat off plan. From past experience, I know this can easily take me right on off the path and derail my WOE.

The first event for this month was a dinner out and I stayed on plan quite happily with an excellent, quite tasty meal. DH and I are talking about going out for our anniversary to a place I know I can also stay on plan and still have a great meal. As for this celebration tonight, well, that's yet to be determined, but I have said I want to stay on plan. If he brings home a pizza from the newly-opened Papa Murphy's, however, that will be a real temptation!

Oh....almost forgot....just for today, no nut butters or peanuts.

Focus.

Every over-indulgence, every misstep, delays my ultimate goal. This is a weight LOSS journey right now, not a maintenance one.

Sorry about your legs - maybe you should switch up your exercise routine for tomorrow! I hear you about eating out - I used to love to try new food at restaurants but now I go for safe food. And just in case I forget - Happy Anniversary.

Yup - time to give the gams a little break! So, yes, yardwork for you - LOL! A girl's work is never done is it. You are sooo darn close to your goal, I probably would stick to the plan too if I were you. Well, I hope I would anyway. For me this is a Way of Life, more than Way of Eating. I am gradually learning to see the difference. This is not a diet for me, I plan to eat this way for the rest of my life. I feel great too!! Happy Anniversary!!

Thanks, BuffyBear. We don't eat out, or carry out, nearly as much food as we did over a year ago. Unless it's going to be fantastic food, I would just rather eat at home where it's tastier!

Thanks GG-Girl. I was able to stay on plan tonight and DH got to indulge in a few off-plan items he really enjoys...he just had to do a bit of grocery shopping for himself after work. He was happy; I was happy.

Sandy, my legs have been tired the last few days also. Knees are hurting and I am not quite sure why. Hope your's are feeling better tonight. I sure understand the problem of having events to attend. We have a wedding this month, and the menu is not going to be low carb! Glad that you and hubby were both able to find something enjoyable to eat!

Hi Sandy: I feel your pain. It is really hard to find tasty, on-plan restaurant choices when those around you are going for the sauces and fried options. Why do the high calorie meals always look so much more appetising than the healthy alternatives? __________ Re. the sore legs: just a suggestion but are you stretching before / during / after the work-out?

Stef, a wedding would be hard! You may get stuck having to eat before and afterward with not much at the wedding reception itself; hope there's a better alternative....somehow.

Ruby, it's true the high calories meals look so-o-o much better! I've just taken a look at the menu for the restaurant the group is going to at the end of the month....it's an Irish pub/restaurant. Lots of tasty items that won't work for me, but at least there are a couple viable options outside the "usual" chicken Caesar salad. And, no, I must confess I'm not doing any stretching at all. I pretty much roll out of bed, get the dogs ready and off we go. If I end up walking them tomorrow, I'll try to do some stretching for my lower thighs, as that's where I'm achey.
