MrsB629's Journal, 21 March 2011

Dad was in town this week so it made following a healthy very hard. When I weigh in saying I followed my diet "reasonably well" I do not mean I have strayed from my vegan diet, just from a low-fat vegan diet. My diet will always be vegan.

Dad likes to take me out to eat, a lot, so that puts a damper on it sometimes. Most of what I get is usually healthy when I eat out, minus the french fries I got for lunch one day. At home I decided to make him a lasagna with rice noodles and vegan mozarella and vegan ricotta made with tofu. Although this is still MUCH healthier than the traditional version, I feel still isn't healthy enough. Dad also loves dessert, so we made a desert with 1 Alternative Baking Company Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookie topped with So Delicious Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream and Skippy Natural Peanut Butter drizzled on top. I ate about 1/3 of it split with dad and hubby. We also made Root Beer floats with Vanilla So Delicious Ice Cream and Mug Rootbeer. And since the root beer was in the house, I had 2 additional glasses of it though out the weekend. Soda and Fries are my biggest weaknesses. I felt so horrible that night after the lasagna and root beer float. My body was not used to eating so unhealthy and it definitley showed. Another reassurance I need to cut all these things out. But now I have two things of ice cream in my house. I hate wasting food and money, but it needs to go. Maybe I will give it to my roommates. I'm sure they wouldn't complain.

Besides missing my morning Biggest Loser work outs Friday-Sunday, I did get in a lot of other work outs walking and biking. Every time Dad & I went out, we walked. I even made him bike with me to the natural foods store one day, although with him not used to the long bike ride (4 miles) he didn't want to bike back so I had hubby drive up and bike back with me so Dad could drive home. (Dad does walk a lot, but he could be more physically fit and I wish he and Mom would get to that point so they can both be healthy. It's hard to push them when I live 1100 miles away. Hoping they will move here soon.) After Dad left Sunday, Eric & I biked to the beach. He does it often but it was my first time and a LONG bike ride it was - 11.3 miles. I was tired about half way there, but once I pushed through it I did alright and it wasn't bad except for the huge hill on the bridge going over to Clearwater Beach.

I'm disappointed in my weight gain this week, espcially such a large gain. Although I made some poor choices in my diet, I did work out a decent amount without any results. I attribute some of my weight gain to an unfriendly week for the female gender, as I notice I always have a few pounds extra those weeks that seem to disappear once it is over, so I am hoping that is most of it. I also ate right befoe I worked out and then weighed in. We will find out when I weigh in next week.

It doesn't sound like it was too bad, as you *did* get in your exercise and you actually realize that you ate junky food. As you said before, just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's healthy. Sooo many people don't realize that. We do, though lol. You'll get back up and work harder this week, and I think you'll be motivated to eat even better in the following weeks. :)
