Christina Maria Thompson's Journal, 21 February 2014

This is my first day here. I just weighed myself and I'm at 177.5 and 5 feet 2 inches with small bone structure. I live in a house with 6 other adults and 1 12 yr. old son and 1 6 mo. old baby at this time. People aways just walk right in my house 24/7 which leaves me with zero privacy. I really need to be alone to excercise and recently started doing small things for excercise here and there when I am actually alone. I am not in charge of the grocery shopping at this time in my life so that is a real bummer for me whom is trying to make healthy choices. I find it so hard to pass up brownies setting right in front of me, lol. BUT, I did make the choice to eat those kinds of things in the morning in hopes I will burn it off during the day. On top of it, my hubby insists on doing all of the cooking which is usually something fried almost every evening. I am trying to encourage heathier cooking because, he now, needs to lose some weight himself. Also, all my girlfriends are much younger than me and already in great shape so I don't have anyone to join me in this program.

That sounds like a difficult living arrangement. Can you go out and buy some fruits and vegetables to make sure you and the kids are getting some healthy options (small amounts at a time). Buy whats in season. If your husband is doing the cooking, then doesn't he have some control over the groceries. Portion control should be your best friend. If you make your own breakfast, have a bowl of cereal and fruit or eggs and a piece of toast and fruit, yogurt and fruit. If you have your own bedroom, then exercise in there if possible. If you have a laptop you can pop a dvd in there. Many dvds don't need much room. You can get some free from library to try out or look for some on youtube. The weather is getting nicer, so walking is great. Get a pedometer (they are pretty cheap) and aim for 10,000 steps a day. My sister lost over 50 pounds just with a pedometer. It makes you think about taking extra steps. She used to walk around her basement to get the steps for the day, lol. If you want this bad enough, you will find a way. Do the best you can.

I just got done having lunch and realized that I have a hard time stopping when I'm eating something I really like, lol, which actually is alot of things. But I just this post here from Suzi which made me think about the portion control which is the one thing I have on my side... whoo hoo :) My hubby has the grocery shopping wrapped up with the budget he has to use for groceries. I will be encouraging healthier options to him for his own weight loss quest which will help mine as well. ( think that should work some ) He sleeps alot in our bedroom, which is the only semi private area in our home. I think some rearranging is due, so I can move around while he is napping during the day. I have always wanted one of those pedometers and think the next time I'm out where they sell them, I will pick one up. ( something to look forward to ) I need to do this badly as I have never been a confident type of person and this weight I put on since carrying twins has really never went away. Most of my extra weight goes right to the center in which I can barely breathe trying tie my shoes, lol :) Thanks for the advise!!! Seems weird as I'm the one usually giving advise to others ( mostly about man trouble, lol ) but anyways, thank you very much!!!

I see that snacking, lack of excercise and sleeping alot with my hubby isn't helping me in my weight lose mission.

Hi Christina, I can empathize with your struggles. Let's be buddies! I'll send you a request. Also something that I listen to that has helped me adopt a healthier way of thinking is the article and audio file found here: http://www.excelatlife.com/articles/thinkingweight.htm. Take care! - Josie

I tried checking out the excelatlife.com/art and my WOT would not let me download saying there were viruses/malware. So, I didn't get to listen but did read for a good couple hours on the site, just looking at different, yet interesting info. I sleep with headphones on to be able to sleep in this house to some audio hypnosis for sleep that is free on youtube. It works GREAT, ( as long as it is quiet enough to hear it, I know, even with headphones on ) That seems like a god send for me to have found these free audios to listen to for a great nights sleep. They do have some other kinds of hypnosis as well, if you are interested in checking out. I have listened to a couple when I could. I really enjoy that type of thing just to be able to relax is so so NICE! Hope things are going well for you and wanted to say thank you for the info/support. RE: fgeorges35

Christina, I'm glad you got a chance to check out the articles on the Excel at Life website. And thank you for telling me about the self-hypnosis audios on YouTube. I've already checked some out. Take care, Josie

what a full household!! that would be a hard situation to be in and try to live healthy. do you have community center or gym nearby that you can join reasonably? that would also give you a break from your house mates. sleep is definitely important. hope that you can work something out to eat healthier and find sometime to exercise. walking is good, outside if you live where you can, here it's a challenge in the winter due to weather. I'm spoiled as I live by myself and my house has more than enough room to exercise in my finished basement, if I choose, I also belong to a gym for $10.00 a month it's really worth it for me.

I recently had to sell my SUV to pay the bills so the gym is not within my reach right now. But my hubby is acting like he is listening to me, lol, the proof will be in the pudding after the next trip to the grocery, As far as my sone goes, he has the convience to eating in the upper part of the house too and loves fruits and fresh veggies so I don't have to worry about him so much ( thankfully )His well to do Grandmother lives up there and gets him whatever his little heart desires but I am thankful that he has followed me in liking the fresher foods in life. The baby who lives here isn't mine so that's another story in it's self, lol.. I did buy myself a pilates tape and actually made it through 20 mins. of it before I was unpleasntly interrupted. But got the 20 in!!! :) School was out this week here for winter vaca this past week so with School starting back in tomorrow will be beneficial to me, Hope to try again with the pilates. Does anyone have any recommendations where to find beginner toning type workouts on Youtube? Wouldn't mind checking something like that out!

Hope your hubby supports you. Hey 20 is a good start!! No ideas on web sites. I found some using exercise balls but haven't found them again.
