Time For a Change Mom's Journal, 05 February 2014

Well let's just say yesterday was NOT a good day. I was hungry and once I started snacking I did not stop. ICK. Does anyone have anything they do when they have those 'days'? Then I weighed today and about fell over dead. Hoping it is bc TOM is around the corner. Otherwise wow. Does anyone have like one day where they eat what they want? I am wondering if that is what I need to do bc otherwise I do that all weekend. Just looking for suggestions. I wish I had a button I could push when I want to turn to food for comfort dagnabbit.

I agree with aggie. You can either dwell on it or just start fresh today and get back on track!

Food is a comfort. Unfortunately food is a huge part of everything anymore. Go to a birthday party, and it isn't just cake and ice cream, it's chips and dip, maybe a few appetizers etc... Watch the commercials, even the ice cream commercials are showing that if you're upset, grab a spoon and dig in. The TV shows do the same thing. How many shows are on now about eating!? Cooking shows, shows about how much a guy can eat (can't remember the name of it). It's no wonder with it being crammed down our throats at every turn. Not to say we shouldn't have some self control, but jeez. I have a day a week where I eat more calories, figure it can't hurt to trick my body. When I am PMS'ing and craving everything under the sun, which has happened lately. I try to keep a ton of fruit around, already cut-up, ready to grab and eat. Watermelon, pineapple, apples (not cut up), oranges. Not to say I don't grab the carbs for a quick fix. I have popcorn on hand for the salty/crunchy cravings. There is probably a group on here that you could join to get helpful hints or just to rant! :) Believe me, you are not alone!! Sorry for the book.

I have a few ideas for you...at least these have worked for me. Feel free to follow or not :) 1. (this is the important one for me) Don't buy snacks...I don't even go down the chip aisle at the store because if I buy it I'll eat it. 2. One exception to #1 is 2 words - air popper. I LOVE salty crunchy snacks so I got an air-popper. Air-popped popcorn only has 35 calories per cup. 3. Cut yourself some slack. Just like Aggie95 and Kathy...if you have a bad day, it's OK just start fresh the next day. Change is hard and it's OK to not be perfect. 4. When the cravings hit try chewing gum. This was a suggestion from one of my co-workers and it does help.

Thank you for the feedback. It does help to know I am not alone! It feels so stupid. And Aggie - I am trying to not buy the snacks I know I can't resist, the difficult thing is having 3 young sons who want it. For example I do not buy the vanilla oreos bc WOW can't stop once I start :). I need to look into an air popper AND be better about having healthy stuff available like the junk is. Thank you for the input!
