I'm trying to raise some money, so I'm having my first garage sale today...any pointers? I've got free coffee since it's so cold outside, and I'm selling all of the clothes I can't fit anymore. That way, I won't get up to that size again!

I've had several garage sales and my best advice would be to a) don't let people haggle you too low on prices during the first couple of hours, especially on the "good stuff", b) after a few hours, reassess your prices and start to consider lower offers or even 2 for 1 deals, and c) a couple of hours before you are ready to pack it in, have a blowout, markdown sale to try to get rid of the last of your stuff - getting a few bucks for the last of the stuff is better than having to haul it back inside and package it up for goodwill (not that I'm against giving stuff to goodwill!). Hope your sale is a great success!

Thanks for the advice Evelyn! We made about $100, which was pretty good, since we didn't have that much stuff to sell. The electronics went first, of course. I still have a ton of clothes left! Tomorrow is day two, and I'm just going to do a couple of hours before my religous meeting. Anything that doesn't sell is going to Goodwill so I can count it on our taxes.

Hi artistgirl, I've never done a garage sale so I can't comment at all. It seems you have a natural talent for it though. :-)
