speechless808's Journal, 10 December 2008

I hate free food! It's always hard to ignore...especially when it comes right before I was going to eat my lunch.

I was just about to make my lunch when the lunch lady came in--I guess one of our schools ordered two sets of lunches today, so our office got the extra one. They brought us sloppy joes, grapes, baby carrots, buns, and ranch. I was going to avoid it, but then my coworkers called me over to sit with them, and since our schedules have been weird lately, we havent eaten together in a while. I decided to eat it though because our director made us do a "walk in another person's shoes" activity where we shadowed another department for a day. My person was the Nutrition lady that writes the menus, and I learned that all of our school meals are actually healthy and wic approved. I always thought they were fatty like at the elementary school i use to work at. She only buys lean meats, wheat breads or tortillas, and low(er) fat sauces. So I guess it wasnt that bad, but it's hard to do the points on it since i dont exactly know what was in it and how much. I'm gonna overpoint to be safe.

That's what I do when I don't know exactly what's in something--"overpoint". (We should start a new catchphrase! Ha!) Which is why I like to do my own cooking or have labels or full nutrition information for restaurants and stuff. But that's good that you have a Nutrition department that actually buys healthier foods. So it probably isn't THAT bad. Was the ranch low-fat?
