*Starshine*'s Journal, 06 November 2013

Hooraaaaaaaah! Today, I officially left the "obese" category! Hit 196 lbs/14 stone so, according to the British NHS chart, I'm now just "overweight". A total of 87 lbs (6.3 stones) lost now and only 32 lbs to go before I'm officially "healthy". In celebration of this major 6-month milestone, I've finally updated my FS bio!

Saw the post and had to pipe in from the state of Maine. Great Job! As an weight lifter, I say lift more weights! With your good diet, as your musculature grows, so will your metabolism. I know the cardio helps you burn fat, I would do a little less. I believe it is better to lift and with cardio; walk - run - SPRINT - walk - run- SPRINT for very short duration of time. Your fat loss is your diet(!) plus activity. CD

Great advice, CD -- and very welcome, especially from Maine, which I love. Yes, you're right, I am a bit of a cardio addict just now -- it's such a joy actually being able to do it! I already alternate between power-walking and jogging, but I agree that adding SPRINT would burn more fat/calories. I do worry, though, about the long-term effect on my knees; I'm trying to be gentle with them, while they recover from carrying an extra 6 stone for several years. I've also been trying to incorporate more weight-training. Admittedly, today's 5 mins looks pretty pathetic, tho' I did use three weight-machines in that time. I hear you though and you're right, so I'll see what I can add. Tell me, would you recommend doing weights *before or after* cardio? I got a bit over-enthusiastic with weights last week and pulled a muscle really badly in my side, I suspect due to my muscles not being properly warmed up. I'm also trying some of the exercises in "You Are Your Own Gym," which use your own body as the weight. At any rate, thanks again for the advice and for taking the time. Very much appreciated.
