I'm back from a week and a half in New York and London.
I spent the time in London with one of the boyfriends. A mutual friend described him as a Michelin star-fucker, and it's an apt description-- he's very much a food and wine snob. We ate our way through Manhattan in grand style, an other than not being stupid I didn't really pay attention to what I ate.
In London I was eating more down-to-earth food but not really paying attention to what I ate other than not stuffing myself.
I can tell from the way my ankles feel and the way that my pants fit that I gained several pounds. Oh well. It's mostly water, I'm sure. Tomorrow I'm going shopping, then I'll be back to measured, considered eating.

One of the things I notice in the fine dining environments is that it can actually be easier to make good choices - because the fish is fresh, the veggies are well-prepared and delicious, and the portions are smaller than your typical mass-market chain restaurant. The problems are the beautiful wines and the luscious desserts...
