Fall Festival = AMAZING! Did you know you can make butter out of heavy whipping cream? Yeah, you just put a little bit into a jar and shake like a mad man! When it congeals -voilà- you have butter, and the extra liquid is buttermilk! I was legitimately stunned and so excited! Can you imagine, while you are waiting for bread to bake in the oven, creating several different flavors of butter? Throw some herbs in there or maybe some honey... mmm... the possibilities are endless! And you are getting a workout too, because you have got to shake that jar like crazy. :P

We saw sheep being herded by a border collie, sheep being sheared, went on a hayride, tasted honey from a honeycomb, saw a healthy eating demonstration, watched a blacksmith forge a cool metal leaf, saw women spinning and weaving wool into yarn, and I got to pet a ton of animals. Ahhh I am such a little kid! The best part about it though, was the food. Oh. My. Gosh. I'm pretty sure they had samples of everything except for meat products. I tried them all; from blueberry cheese to sweet potato smoothies. For lunch I had wood-fired pizza, a glass of whole milk and some apple sauce for dessert. All of the ingredients were locally grown too. Now maybe it's because it was cold out and I was hungry, but that was the best sausage and pepperoni pizza I have ever had. :)

And of course I had to buy a little something from their Farmer's Market. I wanted to get some of their pasture raised, grass fed, beef or chicken, but it was waaay out of my price range. :( I mean $9.99/lb for chicken breast? Sorry! If I was rich I would totally splurge, but not on my salary. I ended up going home with a half gallon of milk, a block of tomato basil cheddar cheese, two types of mustard, and some mild hot peppers. $17 dollars worth of yum.

I can't stop smiling it was so much fun! :D I was a tad bit disappointed that there was no maze or pumpkin picking like they advertised though...

Yes, learned that when my kids were in elementary school. I guess that's how they used to make butter in the old days.

Heck with shaking it. Take it to Lowe's and ask the people at the paint section to throw it in their machine. Lol! Sounds like a blast. I am going to have to try the herb and butter thing. Sounds yummy. About an hour from us the put in a Natural Grocer's store. Didn't have time to check it out the other day though. Also our Dillons carries grass fed beef and sometimes you can get it on markdown. I don't know if you have something like that nearby. Or you could even see if you have a meat locker close by.

Suzi161, that must have been one cool school! I must have gone to a lame one... :P iamachristianjesusfreak, that is a great idea! I wonder what they would say if I asked to borrow their paint machine to make butter... lol Unfortunately, I don't have any cool specialty stores like that, I have Wal-Mart, Aldi's, Food Lion, and Harris Teeter.
