Fritzy 22's Journal, 10 January 2020

Went for a walk this morning, same walk I did on the trail a couple days ago. Halfway in, I started feeling exhausted and felt like I couldn't make it home (but I did). I'm on day 9 of the Daniel fast and I know I am not getting enough protein. I have been averaging about 25 grams a day and it's never been higher than 30. I am not hungry on this fast and feel like I am eating enough food and drinking plenty of water. Not sure if this is just a one day thing or what. I am trying to figure out how to increase the protein, but am not going to eat many more nuts or beans.

I use Garden of Life Raw Organic Protein Vanilla, totally plant-based. The vanilla is rated by independent tests to be cleanest. The Chocolate gets poor marks for clean, probably because of the cocoa and sweetening. 22 grams pure protein per serving, mixed in 8 oz water. Just the protein, not the other complicated stuff like Meal, Sports, etc. Pure protein, no natural or added sugars.

Are you taking in enough cals? And are you getting enough carbs for fuel?

Maybe it was a fluke. I do not think lowish protein for a bit will have that impact... if anything it may just be low calories... just guessing though. Hope you feel better.

How about hemp seeds, chia seeds, and tofu?

RgaDawg - I am avoiding protein powders or shakes. Asked my doctor about it once and he said they are processed foods. I'm limiting processed foods, sometimes successful, sometimes not. I have some protein shakes in the cupboard if I decide to use them. Adameve - I haven't reached 900 calories yet since I started the fast. Carbs on most days are over 100 from fruit, beans, vegetables. Thanks Liv - I'm actually feeling better after a lunch of roasted garbanzo beans and half a yam. I'm hoping low protein for just 21 days will hurt me. Erquiaga - don't like tofu. I've never had hemp seeds but have some chia seeds in the cupboard.

You may be short of electrolytes. Have a cup of salty broth or bouillon and see if it helps.

Gz9gjg - I did have some Emergen-c yesterday and this morning so I'll see how this morning's walk goes.

Yes, I think it did Gz9gjg. I walked today and didn't feel any of the weakness or fatigue. Thanks for the suggestion!
