Dianehere's Journal, 04 August 2010

I haven't had an entry in my journal for some time here, so I thought I would check in. I have continued to be on the Medifast diet, although not religiously. I am giving it another real go now, though. When I do, I like to journal my food, and I find Fatsecret's web site to be far superior to anything else I use to do this. And, I always learn a lot when I log my food. If you try to keep the carbs between 85-100 and calories between 900 and 1100, you will lose at a rapid rate. Yesterday, my carbs were 113. And, I was making a real effort to be totally "On-plan".

Yea. Medifast is the light form of Ketosis...and Ketosis (which you may already know, I am just saying) is when your brain doesn't get enough carbs to use for energy. That occurs when you intake 100 carbs or more a day. So, in order to be in ketosis (or the light form of ketosis on medifast) you have to stay UNDER 100 carbs a day. Preferable that 80 to 90 mark. Eating over 100 carbs defeats the purpose of medifast.

Congratulations getting back on Medifast. I'm assuming you're doing the 5-1 plan. I'm a Take Shape for Life (TSFL) Health Coach, so if you have questions let me know. Also just an FYI if you don't know already... Medifast has "Medifast Thermogenics" or "Appetite Suppression" meals to help your body burn more calories or curb your appetite. This may help with the struggle of not intaking any carbs. Good Luck and feel free to send me a message with any questions.

If you get a food scale it really helps with sticking to the daily amounts when you're fixing your lean and green meal. You can also break up the lean and green meal into 2 (carefully measured - preferably) meals and then you can eat even more often, which helps with the hunger. There are also some tricks for making the shakes and things taste better, and recipes for altering some of the Medifast items into kind of better tasting foods.
