Day 2 of a planned 3 days of ‘no solid food’ fasting

This week was a bust 🥺 I am definitely ‘gaining weight’ this week and I expect to gain more when I resume eating solid food this weekend.

This week proves, yet again, losing weight ** for me ** is not achieved by **only** reducing calories. I need to keep my carbs and protein low, and-run. The weeks where I am able to do that I lose “net weight”, when I don’t… I don’t.

I record everything I eat every day and here are the reasons I don’t lose:

🌟 My metabolism slows down – No it is not ‘broken’ and no I can’t ‘control’ it. However, I can ‘influence’ it by exercise. Otherwise it is what it is. When I was obese I could burn a ton of calories simply by taking the stairs. Now, I have to run a 8 minute mile to get a decent calorie burn.

🌟 Water, water, water – Water has ‘weight’ but it has no calories. This is how I can take in 900 calories, expend 2000 calories and still gain weight. I did that multiple times this week.

I am no longer ‘obese’ and when people see me, they say I look ‘skinny’. My Omron body fat meter has me at 20% body fat. So, my desire to get down to 15% body fat requires me to ‘dig in a little harder’ than I did when I initially lost weight nearly a year ago.

My challenge is that ‘mentally’ there is only so much I am capable of doing. I can only fast a few days a month. I can only avoid pizza and hamburgers so many days a month. The biggest issue I have is that when I start to eat I ‘binge eat’.

This is where I look at my numbers and make a decision. Next week I need to actually stick to fasting on Monday and Tuesday and running each day. This is required for me to drop -net pounds- week over week.

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

@Sweetlysad - Glad to see you back :) You are able to be 'consistent' with your diet. That clearly works. I try that, I really do, but, alas it is not something I seem to be able to do. However, it definitely works :)

@Becc@ - Thanks :) And if I 'fail' it won't be anything new Haha! I will just 'tweak the plan' and try again...

Good attitude! Sometimes I get tired just reading about your strategy. 😉 I am joking. Maybe you live a little too close to In-N-Out? 😉

cardio and reduced calories is a recipe for disaster for weight loss in my opinion. When you reduce the calories you eat and tell your body you're going to do endurance, your body decides it's going to demolish your muscles, and hold on to every calorie for that next long run. Yes cardio burns fat in the short-term, but in the long- term will slow down your metabolism. lift more weights! Actually try to limit your cardio. sounds like you need to build more muscle. eating higher calories and lifting weights to allow your body to build a roaring fire metabolism, before slowly reducing caloric intake, will create fat burn while actually increasing muscle size. Giving you a double whammy fat reduction as the caloric intake will burn fat, and the building of muscle will also burn fat. you will be able to eat more, feel better, look better. Unless you're trying to run marathons that is

I understand what you are saying. When you take in food and water it adds weight. I've weighed myself right after drinking a glass of water and see the "water" weight immediately. And if I drink more, I weigh more. Have to figure out the best time of day to weigh myself. I try not to drink after a certain time each night. And like you, I avoid certain foods and tend to binge eat when I finally give in. Trying to see if I can change that. Lucky that so far I am not craving things that usually do me in, like pizza, ice cream and chips. Trying to satisfy myself with small portions - 1/4 grilled cheese sandwich or 1/2 English muffin instead of a whole one. I'm not on a low carb diet, but I do know they count!

Sorry about your week. It just goes like that sometimes. But you will get there. Do you think your decision to waterfast was a possible issue?

I get the wanting to binge eat. I had friends praying for me the other day because I was going to a birthday party and it was Mexican food, my favorite. But I had planned for it in my calories and I tried to stick to it and I did with the food, but then I gave in and had cake. I was 25 calories over and I gained. Learning to be self-disciplined enough to budget in a burger or pizza is great but often I don't only want a salad and one piece of pizza I want three pieces of pizza and no salad. One day at a time we will develop self-control. You've got this!

Glad to hear you have joined the “fast recovery” Club. Since you heart has become efficient, it takes metabolism with it. I have to push my heart into the 70% level (126/beats per minute) to burn the Calories quickly. Also, the extra muscles 💪 have paid off!!

I also agree with Riley, sums it up nicely!!

@srossca - What sucks for me is that the 'extra muscle burns more calories' doesn't help me much when running. In the gym, of course, totally-different-story :)

@Rrileygk87 - I agree with the 'math' regarding weight lifting, unfortunately I need to take in sufficient carbs to 'lift heavy' and that caused weight gain. When I lift with low glycogen I feel like crap. I would rather run. So it is a 'yes this is best' but, 'I can't do it" :( Also, when I lost 40 pounds in 5 months I did do it by running and fasting. I was heavier then however...

@liv001 - Hmm no I don't think the water fast 'hurt' at all.
