Good morning, Friends.

Sigh, being sick is messing with me, badly.

I have a hard time resisting self-pity snacks, and I see the (unfortinate) results hereof. I need to do better. So that I will do today.

I have all my meals pre-planned. I have it all written down. I will not stray from the path.

...

So, my weight loss class is over for now. It's been an amazing 13 weeks, and the results were mindboggling. We started out being 12. We ended up being 8. Those 8 lost a total of 72.5 kilos - actually more than the lightest person on the team! I am deeply impressed. The big winner lost 13 kilos, an average of a kilo per week.

So, why is it that I can teach them to do this and not accomplish it myself?

I think it's pretty sad that I am one of those who have lost the least (if I haven't gained!) during those three months.

This has been bugging me all night, to the point where I haven't gotten much sleep.

I did great last week, and I am several kilos down from what I was a week ago, but I am still a lot higher than the low I reached 5 or 6 days ago. I want back there ASAP, and then further. Let's go!

I do feel that I am in a mentally better place right now. My cold is kicking my butt, and it is tough to handle going to work, teaching, being sick, taking care of wife (who is ALSO sick) and everything in one go. It's so easy to resolve to the comforts that I know and like - the foods. It's been happening these last few days, and I don't really blame me for it. It bothers me that it happens, but I have simply been too exhausted to really care.

I'm getting better though, slowly, and with that comes the determination to do good. I need to. I want to.

I've been wanting to exercise lately. I really wanted to yesterday and the day before, but I did not have ANY excess energy to "waste" on it. It's tough enough as it is. I would, however, welcome a higher calorie burn. I would welcome a swift weight loss.

Today, I will renew my gym membership, and I will start making it a habit to go as soon as I feel better. But renewing the membership is first step. I want this. :)

Today, I'm thankful for:
- Feeling better, though not there yet.
- Morning coffee. I'm well enough to not be wanting morning tea. lol.
- Wife.
- Rockin' with the kids tonight.

Life is good!

Easy does it pal. I know being sick is the worst. At least it is not HOT and your being sick, so snuggle up under some blankets, watch your RDI, and drink lots of fluids!

Hi Keld, if I may, what is your BMI at the moment? There is always tomorrow...

Don't loose sight of the 'bigger' picture. You have lost 63kg since your journey began. That is nearly as much as your 8 people did together. It just gets tougher when your are close to your right weight. I am so close to where I want to be....but I think my body wants to be the weight I am now, cause it is just not letting go of the last little bit. Hang in there, oh & get to the gym ASAP ;)

Ryan, my BMI is 29. I'm not TOO upset about that - but I want it quite some lower. :)

Yeah for renewing your gym membership.... Exercise is DEFINATELY key to a weight loss journey. I don't necessarily believe it makes you loose that much weight, ( although, obviously, it is good for health ). It is more the "mental" place it puts you in... You feel good that you are looking after yourself and it makes you "body aware" instead of just food and drink aware. Hope you get well quickly.

I agree Sk1nnyfuture, exercise is not necessarily that much help, and may actually increase your appetite, but it does make us more healthy and more health aware for sure! I did a little jogging last night, and feel quite a change to a few parts of my body that the biking is not hitting.

I'm really looking forward to it. But first, I'm looking forward to not being sick. lol. I'll get there. I'm determined.

I do know this; in physics the law of conservation of energy means that energy cannot be created or destroyed. Every time you take in food you are supplying your body with stored/potential energy (consequently the measurement of foods in kilojoules) Your body needs this energy to function and when you exercise you basically increase your body’s “fuel consumption” i.e. energy stored as fat are used as fuel (if you supply your body with more energy than what it needs your body will store this energy as fat) No matter what diet on earth you are following – it is irrelevant in terms of physics, if your body use more energy than what you are supplying it with your body’s stored energy reserves (fat) will decrease. It is therefore a mathematical fact that if you increase your energy output (exercise) to more than your calorie/energy input over a period of time that you will lose weight. It may not show immediately due to the constant inflows and outflows of your body but it will show, sooner or later. It is a fact. In life there are always many roads or options to get to a specific goal. In our scenario; diet, exercise, tweaking “what” we eat (so that we can still eat a lot), eating less, weight loss products, drugs, starvation etc, etc, etc. and every person obviously needs to decide based on his/her unique circumstances what path he/she will take to get to that goal. Before I started this journey I was lazy and ate too much. Period. So please don’t say exercise don’t help. It most definitely does.

Yep, agree 100% with skinny and posterchild. I need to remember the good feeling of exercise too. So get that membership renewed and get to the gym once you feel better! (Hopefully soon!)

Ryan, I'm with you. I think what Pam and JP were saying was more in the lines of "not sure how big an impact", rather than "not doing anything" when it comes to exercise. But you're right. Less in than out equals loss. Less out than in equals lard. lol. The rest is essentially fine-tuning.

Hi King, sorry you are not feeling your best. Hopefully soon though. I'm stuck with a cold that is sapping my energy too. You have been at this for a long time and done really well. It is hard not to beat yourself up over a few kilos here and there but take it easy on you! For the last 3 weeks I have tried "intermittent fasting" on Mondays. I eat Sun night dinner and then don't eat again until Mon night dinner. This is new for me and I'm aware that it is just another way to reduce my caloric intake for the week/month but what it is doing for me is mentally helping me see that I don't have to be satiated immediately to satisfy a food craving. 20 hours without eating IS possible and not hard for me to do. So when I am eating a regular 12 hr/12 hr day the huge empty feeling isn't so bad anymore. You might have seen the Posts with videos talking about it but there are some great websites if you are interested. You might already be doing this and if so forgive the long comment. Hope your week is healthy and special. :)

Neptune, I appreciate it. LOL, I have NEVER considered fasting - to me it sounds very backwards. But I do see your point. Maybe I should give it a go. Maybe I should try it out tomorrow? Not sure if I have the guts to do it. lol
