I work at a nursing home, and I love working with my residents. The are the sweetest people. Since I have been working there I have spoiled my people. The hall that I work on has some people who are total dependent, and some who can do a little for themselves.
They are such wonderful people. Most of them try so hard to do for themselves and it makes me want to do more for them. I don't really mingle with the rest of the staff. Only if I have to report something about one of the residents. I feel as though my time needs to be spent with the folks that I have been hired to take care of. During my time at work I try to find out who has an upcoming birthday, so I can get them a little gift. You see, my parents and grandparents have already passed away, so I have adopted the residents that I work with. I really do care about what happens to them. I went out on my lunch break and bought a few items for one of my ladies today. I bought her lotion,perfume, and a little monkey that wraps his arms around you. When I got back to work, I still had 10 minutes left on my break, so I took the gift box to her. She was so excited!! She loved the little monkey. She gave me a hug and told me that I was so good to her, and she thanked me. I was just so happy to see her smile. Bless her heart.

Since I have been there I have celebrated seven birthday's. I remember one of the ladies had asked for a mirror that magnifys. I got it for her with a couple of other things. I asked her do you remember who I am? She responded to me saying yes...your Santi Clause!! LOL She is so funny.

Sorry for rambling about my job. Sometimes I just wish I had someone that I could talk to about these things. The good thing about it is that as long as I focus on my people...I don't think about food as much. Lol

That is truly gracious and wonderful. And, I know what you mean about putting the focus on other people can help us to feel better and do more healthy things to care for ourselves, too.
