Eringiffin's Journal, 20 September 2012

Yesterday I went to my salon for the first time in months. I have really let myself go, hehe. I now have 2 eyebrows again, hooray! Plus, it was so much fun to have all these flawless model type women ooo-ing and ahhh-ing over my weight loss. They get paid to flatter me but I don't care, I still like it, lol.

Two things that really made me happy, though: The little terry cloth towel-dress that they make you wear fit me on the skinniest snap! I almost cried I was so happy. I did a little Katherine Heigl happy dance in the dressing room. When I started my diet, I had to struggle to get it to snap on the very first snap and there was an embarrassing gaping hole that I covered up with a bathrobe (which also didn't fit). The other thing was that I honestly thought they had gotten a bigger massage table, but it was the same one, I just got smaller.

So today I am overflowing with gratefulness to my new WOE, the distance I have already come, and the motivation I still have to continue going forward. I have learned so very much from the people on this site. My top takeaways thus far:

1. Track everything I eat.
2. Don't rely on the number on the scale to measure success or failure on a day to day basis.
3. Experiment with my WOE to find what works best for me.
4. Celebrate the mini-milestone achievements.
5. Connect with others to share accountability.
6. Find people who have a similar WOE to share tips and recipes.
7. Be gentle with myself. Stop beating myself up when I fall down.
8. A picture is worth a thousand words (or numbers). Comparing before and after pictures is a real motivator.
9. Be patient. I didn't gain all this weight overnight, I won't lose it overnight, either.
10. Find ways to get more active. It's energizing and though painful and awkward at times, reminds me of why I am making these changes in the first place.

There is so much more, especially in regards to the nitty gritty details of low carb eating, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind that I would recommend to anyone trying to lose weight. Thank you to the many FS buddies who helped me understand these concepts and worked with me to make them a reality in my life.

Erin, this is wonderful! I can relate to so much of what you said. When I was on a plane this week and went into the bathroom, I could swear the bathroom on the plane got bigger, but really, I just take up less of the space there! I also fit into the seat with plenty of extra seat belt instead of pulling it out the full length. It's those little things that show up when you least expect them, and they are delightful! I need to try it out on a massage table...
