baskington's Journal, 15 November 2018

Busy day today. I have to run down for an appointment in west palm beach and I may take a little time to myself. I woke up early and have most of the work I really need to do done already.

I have been testing my limits this week which is good since my appetite has soared. I am a little freaked by how hungry I am all the time. It is extremely hard to be accurate with my meats as most have more fat than I find to record, but I know by the way my body feels I am getting a lot more fat. my ketones show it too. When my protein is at a higher level my glucose rises and ketones drop. I kind of feel like my body is working overtime and really burning up what I am eating. It is hard to explain.

I have really not exercised much, yesterday because I was going to be so far over my calorie limit I decided to do some cardio (bike). normally exercise helps dull my appetite. It did for a couple hours and then I ate again like crazy.

Still waiting for this to catch up with me. I have gained 2/10's of a pound this week. And with water weight always changing I am surprised it has not been bouncing. my belly feels loose and floppy, which according to some indicates a whoosh is coming, but the only whoosh I expect is a couple pound gain eventually.

So my average overage is around 300 calories a day, probably closer to 80% fat to protein, no carbs worth mentioning. Hoping me gadding about after my appointment may help me avoid eating for a couple extra hours. LOL!

I hope the pain and discomfort is 'staying away' or at least diminished :)

actually it is Adef, I fully expected my calves to be giving me trouble today after biking so much and they are good!

So are you eating more protein now. I feel like in a sort of simplified way the keto theory is that we will break down fat for calories and we no carb but what happens when we have shed all the fat we should shed. Do we have to up our calories again? Well I am far away fro that. Just thinking aloud here Thanks for journalling.

@Baskington - Great to hear!

no Liv I am eating less protein and more fat. just hard to get it correct on the food log, I shift things a little with adding some beef fat and lessening the actual steak a little sometimes but it really is off. I have always eaten a lot of protein in this maintenance, sometimes too much and that causes the weight gain. now if you are talking about maintenance yes you need to play with your macro's to find the right balance for you. some add more carbs similar to what atkins suggested to find your level. since I don't do carbs, it is easier for me, I just play with my fat and protein. upping the protein slows the weight loss or makes me gain, adding fat and calories keeps my weight stable.

Thanks Adef, I am still just amazed how much I can eat! and it is nice to eat without cravings driving me crazy and not worrying so much about my weight.

Hope you take that time for yourself and have some fun! Sounds like you have a case of the winter hungries - it seems to be going around!

@nikeit - Yes I have a serious case of the 'hungries'. However, since I am not eating solid food most days I have kept the 'damage' low. If I could eat solid food but keep it low carb I could be eating ribeye steaks like @Baskington :)

adef - Baskington's ribeyes always make my mouth water!

yes Nikeit that sure is going around! It was raining when I went to the mall and it totally changed the layout it is an outlet mall now so everything is outside and I could not find a shoe store. that trip ended quickly.

Ah Adef I am branching out and trying nice fatty lamb too. so many options I have not tried yet. but the ribeyes are my favorite. Just have to up the fat when I eat those to curb the glucose response. the body switch's from fat burning to protein burning when you eat too much protein at one time. So I am guessing if I was working out, on higher protein and high glucose, once I burned through my glucoseprotein,,, I would be empty until my fat burn could kick in again.I have noticed after breakfast my first resistance session is hard and a couple hours later when I do the second set, it is much easier. I guess once I get going again on my exercise routine I will have to check that

More fat makes sense to me. I am in the phase where I should eat less fat (fat adapted phase) but I can see how it makes sense to increase it again at goal
15 Nov 18 by member: liv001
actually it is the best range for fat loss, lower protein and more fat. once you are fat adapted the excess fat gets made into keytones and not stored. too much protein and you change that process. have you visited commonsense keto on facebook?? they are very strict and believe in super low protein for me, but their links which explains everything on how this works is really eye opening.

if you work out a lot you are allowed more protein, most women are only allowed like 45 to 55 max protein unless they have a strong exercise program. too strict for me but the concepts are very understandable.

I do not care about too many rules. I do want to understand it though. I have been reading some of the keto gurus say that once you start to burn your body fat for real (as in being fat adapted) you should not eat too much fat but rely on the body to tap into your body fat. So what I am trying right now is watch my carbs (no more than 20), watch my protein but not stress about it too much and then try to let my body restrict my fat intake by listening to when I get full. We will see how it goes.

I will check out the facebook site though. Thanks for mentioning it

that sounds like a good plan, you should always listen to your body. I hate rules, but I do like to understand as you do. that is why I read a lot and study why somethings work the way they do. the commonsense keto some of the articles by coach Jack are great learning experiences. you use that knowledge to tweek your own plan. same with the carnivore sites, they have some awesome articles which also are real learning experiences.

Looks like the group may have become inactive?

I post on there and the 2 carnivore sites you need to apply to be accepted. is the carnivore announcement page https://www.facebook.com/groups/PrincipiaCarnivora/announcements/ this is a great place to get a ton of info once accepted. if you can not get to this link directly as it is a member only, look up Principia Carnivora and you will find the join link.
