Day 3 of a planned 5 day ‘no solid food’ fast
Blood sugar 99 mg/dL

📅 The scale hasn’t moved, but, I know for sure this is water 😊 I have been drinking a lot of 🌊 water, but little has ‘come out the other side’ 😊 This morning I plan to go on a 🏃🏾 5 mile run. A 5 mile run should ‘get things moving’.

🏋🏾 I almost had to reduce the weight I lift yesterday. I barely made it through my workout ☹ This sucks because I was lifting 200lbs last week and this week I am down to 180lbs and may have to go back down to 160lbs.

Essentially, my 💪🏾 muscles must have sufficient glycogen in their cells to ‘lift heavy’. In plain language, I need carbs to ‘lift heavy’. Lifting ‘heavy’ is my goal, because I want bigger muscles. I feel it looks a lot nicer when my weight is in the 160 pound range. Otherwise I feel I look ‘frail’ and ‘gaunt’.

🧘🏾‍♂️ So, back to the weight lifting problem. I know how to fix it, I just need to eat a bag of tortilla chips tonight and I will have plenty of glycogen filling my muscles for my workout on Thursday. However, if I do that, there will be little to any weight loss for the week and perhaps even a weight gain. To a normal body builder this would not be a big deal, but, when you have been obese all your adult life, you can’t risk becoming obese again.

So I decided I will just reduce my weights for my Thursday workout if needed. If I can get down to 165lbs by this weekend I will finally allow myself to ‘bulk’ 5-10 pounds. I should then be able to get back to my 200lbs lifts. That’s the plan at least…

😎 Life is Good! Have a great day everyone!

good for you on your decision. still curious to if a high fat moderate protein meal the night before would do it too. at least it would fuel you with calories needed but not the carbs.

I had the same problem a few years ago (April 2016) ADWS, lost power and endurance on a sharp weight loss (higher calorie deficit) trend. I was concerned that it was permanent due to lost muscle...one of our long term members suggested a glycogen reload and magically all power AND endurance reappeared. Since then I've slowly lost about ten pounds (mostly fat) with not a big drop in strength, while endurance and power to weight ratio are better than at the heavier weight. Not recommending this but I used about 1200 calories from 4 big apple turnovers in an 8 hour window.

Baskington, me too, actually I don't have tha "energy" when I eat only chips or sweets 🤷‍♀️

With all my biking (some days, 3+ hours at high sustained heart rates) I have had to be careful with only replacing my glycogen as needed...as it is very easy to overestimate the calorie burn and over-compensate with too much fuel (definately not good).

Although I eat a lot of sweets I still need to eat real food to keep me satisfied for longer time

@baskington - I have been allowing myself a lot of fat through heavy cream (I can't actually 'eat' anything because I will then 'binge'). I also go heavy on the protein drinks before the workout. This is why I think I am able to 'barely get through' the workout. Otherwise, I think my performance would be even worse! :)

@Steven Lloyd - Yes the 'struggle is real' :) :)

@Keilin_4 - When I hit 165lbs I will allow myself 'real food' during the week. Otherwise I am eating a lot of real food on the weekends :)

@Steven Lloyd - I KNOW that "4 big apple turnovers" will DEFINATELY allow me to get back up to 200lbs :) -and- I may do that if I can ever make this cut... ;)

That is a great plan, right now let's suffer a little bit haha I still don't know if I am going to allow myself to eat Halloween candies tonight . 🤔🍫🍬🍭🍨. I did really bad last weekend🐷🐖 😣. I have been sleeping great this week

I think you need more calories then the 900 you give yourself on the fast, liquid or not. and I will be the first to admit I don't understand how you don't have control when you eat food that has absolutely no carbs, at least not when you have your mind set. I totally understand it when you use keto cookies and Splenda products. those can definitely set off binges. I think some types of carbs can set off just about anyone. I am testing plain blueberries today on myself.

Good luck finding the balance you are looking for - it's hard but you can do it - happy halloween!

What about drinking a lill OJ like someone suggested CB1006?

It's 2 PM EST and I just had a caffeine pill 100 mg and then I got offered a cup of coffee with 2 creamers in it. Better this than more food. Falling asleep will be a piece of cake but staying asleep, ha, that will be my real challenge tonight. Keep pushing and testing your limits.

Caffeine pills?? I am addicted to caffeine, I need them 🤯

@CrashtestDawnie - If I can remember I will drink some OJ before my workout...
