wintersmith's Journal, 24 May 2010

I admit I'm not doing this correctly. Not just that I'm giving in to temptation or making new bad habits, but that I'm ignoring my guilt regarding that.

So, here is my deal. For the next week I'll have no more than 40 grams of sugar per day with a target of 20 grams or less. On Saturday I'll allow myself 60 grams of sugar. If I have any desert it will be home made (though to be fair I'm becoming adept at home-made frozen yogurt...). My wife has the opposite problem as she feels ill and won't eat. Then she becomes upset because she feels she's being a bad mom. I think I've managed to get that under control by telling her that she will be just fine as long as she's getting sufficient micro-nutrients to cover her bases (folic acid, calcium, vitamin B, C, etc) but it is concerning. Hopefully her morning sickness will subside a bit soon.

Of course, my excuses are legion: Lost sleep due to overtime, lost sleep due to my wife's discomfort and problems in early pregnancy, and the added stress of trying to prep the house for a new family member while taking over all of the household chores (she can't cook, it makes her feel ill. She can't really exercise or walk the dog, it makes her feel ill. She can't take care of the cats because the last thing I want is for her to get a toxoplasmosis infection and become ill). So I admit, I'm doing a poor job nutrition-wise. I believe, though, that I can get both of us back on track this week. I'll make sure I write journal entries, good or bad, to see how we're doing.

Good luck with the new plan, but it's understandable to let a few things slide. You have more important matters to deal with. Congrats again!
